Michael Williams work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Senior Server Engineer
Worked with the team to prototype, successfully launch, and continuously improve CryptoUnicorns over three years. In addition, I also worked on two unreleased free-to-play mobile games. Across all projects, I architected, implemented, and optimized various real-time gameplay systems utilizing Elixir and TypeScript. I also led server architecture efforts, routinely interfacing with the team lead to direct development. This included the promotion and implementation of Test-Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration (CI), and Continuous Deployment (CD), as well as frequently mentoring the team through architecture reviews, code reviews, and pair programming to build robust server-side infrastructure.
Server Engineer
Joined the rapidly growing studio to assist the platform team in scaling services to meet the 50x load we would encounter during the launch of Dauntless's open beta. Then joined the live operations team after launch to identify their needs and build several tools to assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the game. Finally, transitioned to the analytics team to spearhead efforts to substantially improve how the team and studio at large would access and relate to our data. As the first data engineer, I turned unreliable scripts into a scalable and reliable data pipeline, automated the majority of manual work, and standardized processes and tools. The improvements translated directly into team productivity and effectiveness, allowing us to affect change at an organizational level.
Founding Engineer
Worked with founding team to identify and determine the feasibility of an investor search tool by building and selling a prototype. I then grew and led the engineering team to take the product to the next level. I focused on the architecture and development of our software that matched executives to investors through machine learning, and continued to support our sales and marketing efforts to grow revenue.
Engineer In Residence
Worked with a cross-functional team at a venture capital firm to identify, research, and prototype potential products and businesses relating to cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin) with a focus on improving the way content creators—like journalists—are compensated for their work.
Backend Engineer
Joined the team to extended and maintain the backend logic of a whitelabel cryptocurrency exchange built in Elixir (which had yet to 1.0) and occasionally assist with frontend tasks. Also assisted in the development and management of relationships in business and academic environments.
