Michael is a professional archaeologist who has over 20 years of experience in the heritage resource management industry. Michael has directed or played a major supervisory role in more than 120 archaeological investigations within Alberta, and has authored numerous historical resource overviews, impact assessments, and mitigation reports. Primarily focused on oil and gas and oil sands development-related projects requiring historic resource programs, these archaeological investigations have involved the management of large crews, interaction with development proponents, local First Nations, and regulatory agencies. Mr. Turney has also managed historic resource impact assessments for a variety of other projects types ranging from urban, mining (coal and aggregate), forestry, and linear (wind power projects, electrical transmission lines, seismic) developments. Besides his extensive background in Alberta archaeology, Michael’s past work experience includes archaeological investigations in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Northern Ontario, the Northwest Territories, Idaho, Missouri, Panama and numerous islands in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean. With past work experience in both academic and consulting worlds, Michael has the skills to meet the needs of both industry and regulators.
