About Michael Varrone
I’m a rising senior at Emory University currently working as an undergraduate research assistant. Over the last 16 months, I have also created and led the Emory hockey team, and I’m looking to expand my skill set into life sciences and business consulting.Throughout my years at Emory University, my goal was to maximize my opportunities. I have always had a passion for Biology research, so as a freshman, I joined a Conservation Genetics laboratory. I learned that science is slow and that a setback can lead to reshaping a project for the better. After this, I joined a Neurodegenerative Disease laboratory and interacted with coworkers much further along their career paths than I was. This enabled me to work on complex projects with those having different backgrounds.Success in academics propelled me to turn to extracurriculars, therefore, I founded Emory Club Ice Hockey. Under my guidance, the team has become the fastest-growing club sport at Emory, as well as one of the most successful. I maximized the inaugural year of the club, scheduling dozens of practices, as well as games and tournaments, despite lacking a budget from Emory. Fundraising and volunteering events exceeded our goals, ensuring the club is poised for another competitive year.I’m ready to continue to develop my skills and look forward to connecting with you.

As an undergraduate research assistant, I work in the Rowan Lab at the Emory Department of Cell Biology. I have contributed to researching the selective vulnerability of specific neuron types in early-stage Alzheimer's disease by carrying out over 40 targeted laboratory techniques.
