Opened in 2009, The Mullingar Enterprise, Technology and Innovation Centre (METIC) was set up to build on the success of Mullingar Community Enterprise Centre by providing a number of larger Enterprise spaces to facilitate enterprise and job creation in Mullingar.

Mullingar Recycling Resource Centre Ltd. trading as Action Recycling has been operating in Mullingar since the 1980's collecting and recycling Glass, Paper and Cardboard. The company operates as a Community Service Programme (CSP) supported by POBAL, to address community needs through supporting services and community assets, while providing employment opportunities and improve the employability of individuals most distant from the labour market.

Based in the Galway Technology Center (GTC), WestBIC delivers business development services to innovative start-up’s and SME’s. Reporting to the Regional Manager, I had responsibility for business development in the Midlands region.Key functions• Working with a large portfolio of clients to determine individual requirements and produce tailored support interventions including feasibility research; financial, operational and market planning, business modelling, site development, tendering/e-tendering, sourcing finance and project management services• Building relationships with development agencies, clients, external suppliers, colleges & universities, banks and state agencies• Identifying suitable EU funded multilateral projects and securing WestBIC involvement through networking, consortium building, development of project plans and application submissions. Achievements within this role• Researched and drafted several business plans which have successfully been put forward for both competitions and investment, securing government and private investment on behalf of clients in excess of €4million• Successfully led application submissions for a number of EU multilateral co-operation projects under programmes including ‘INTERREG’, ‘Intelligent Energy Europe’ and ‘Life Long Learning’• Managed a number of complex EU multilateral projects to successful completion. Budgets ranging from €300k to €3million• Worked closely with a number of business clients on capital projects

From 2009 to 2013, Hometuition.ie was a leading provider of affordable one-on-one home tutoring to students of all ages, levels and abilities.Key functions• Overall management of the business from concept to commercialisation, including business & marketing planning, strategic management, financial management, developing policies and procedures and business development• Creating and monitoring key metrics for all aspects of the business, including metrics for lead generation, sales activity, customer retention and financial metrics.Achievements within this role• Grew a customer-centric business from an innovative new start-up, showing good growth progression over the 4 years of business, with revenues and pre tax profits increasing year on year by 38%, 51% and 71% respectively• Performed all personnel management activities for staff, including recruitment, retention, training, performance evaluation and continued development for a team of over 80 tutors, education consultants and customer support assistants• Developed a diverse client base including the HSE, Department of Education & Skills, film production companies and private students• Implemented highly successful internet marketing strategy incorporating social media, press articles, online blogging, website SEO and Google Adwords• Planned for succession and successfully negotiated the sale of the business

Cameron Ireland is a Subsidiary of Cooper Cameron Corporation. The Longford facility is lean six-sigma ‘Center of Excellence’ for the design and manufacture of pressure containing and controlling equipment for the oil and gas industry. During my time with Cameron, employment at the plant grew by in excess of 300%.Key functions• Manufacturing Engineer and Maintenance and Facilities Manager leading a team of full time maintenance staff and teams of service providers and contractors• Responsibility for site Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance, I was a member of EMEA HS&E executive representing the facility at division and corporate level and reporting at corporate level to the HS&E DirectorAchievements within this role• Project manager for a number of infrastructural and site development CAPEX projects during a period of significant growth for the facility. (Number of employees increased by over 300%). Project budgets ranged from €200k to €2.5million. Projects included machine process upgrades, site expansion and the relocation of R&D function from Houston Texas to Longford. • Led a project to develop and implement a software based ‘Preventative Maintenance Programme’ designed to minimise down time for all critical machinery and equipment. Estimated annual savings of €200k in reduced machine downtime and lost productivity• Implementation and management of a robust site-wide integrated HS&E Management System which ensured compliance with all legal, corporate and industry specific requirements • Steered the Longford Cameron facility from ‘Bottom of the Barrel’ to ‘Top of the Pile’ on the corporate H&S league table, receiving award recognition for the Longford facility and saving an estimated €350k per annum on lost days, machine downtime and litigation costs
