An award-winning director and photographer focused on stories and character, Winokur developed a documentarian’s eye while working as a photojournalist for national newspapers. Telling stories through direct, compelling and beautiful images remains a common thread and driving purpose. Winokur’s base is The Foundry Studio, a warm, flexible 3000 sq. ft. workspace in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District stocked with tools from vintage 4x5 cameras and antique lenses to a Dragon from Red Digital Cinema. Winokur’s work has garnered many awards, including recognition from Graphis, American Photography, the Medical Marketing Association, the Health Care Marketing Association, the RX Club and APA. A series of short films and broadcast ads for the State of California was recognized by the American Public Health Association and American Photography for its use of cinematic storytelling to communicate health issues to farmworkers. His short film Selling Rosario has won 8 awards across 18 film festivals. Winokur’s current film, Pieces of String, a documentary, is currently screening at film festivals across the country.
