As a research associate with BENS, I track and asses developments of relevant national security policies and issues in order to work with staff to provide analysis for security-focused government partners and business leaders. I assist in project management and help draft weekly newsletters, literature reviews, panel questions, memos and other correspondence. I support our podcast, Building the Base, by attending podcast recordings with experts in the defense industrial base, capturing the speakers' ideas about the future of the defense industrial network, synthesizing them to extract main points and poignant quotes, and creating content summaries for our listeners.

As the volunteer seasonal lighthouse keeper on Ocracoke Island, I was a resource to the community and its visitors for information regarding Ocracoke Island and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. I conducted daily research on topics that were previously unfamiliar to me, including sea turtle nesting habits, barrier island migration, the history of Ocracoke Island and the Outer Banks, and the modern and historic functionality of the lighthouse. I quickly adapted to life on a remote island, acting as a representative of the community to the tens of thousands of summer visitors with which I came in contact.

As Auditor of the NCFYR, I have analyzed the efficiency of local county YR chapters through assessments of financial and organizational documents. I compile my recommendations to improve local organizations' operations in reports, which are provided to localities and to the NCFYR Executive Committee. In this role, I have tracked the compliance of local organizations with the campaign finance reporting procedures of the North Carolina State Board of Elections. As Auditor, I maintain connections and networks with local chapters in order to act as a link between the State Board and local leadership.

My roles in this position vary greatly. My role as a camp counselor for free govenrment-sponsored camps in low-income communities and my work in parades and festivals, such as our July 4th Celebration, Carousel Festival and Saint Patrick's Day Parade, have enabled me to work with children and families in my community. I have worked in the John Kernodle Senior Center, calling BINGO and serving low-cost meals to seniors in my community. Most of the time, I work in the Recreation Department, assisting community members in registration for camps, after schools and dog parks. In this role, my skills in Spanish have been an asset in the workplace, as we have a large Latino population in our community.
