My experience with Mike was on his team as an additional cybersecurity engineer where we shared responsibilities performing SIEM engineering, SOC use case development, and participating in meetings for a variety of MSSP clients. Mike was a bit of an anomaly when we were looking for a person to join our MSSP team as a cybersecurity engineer. He had little to no SIEM experience and hadn't ever been a part of a SOC environment, but he knew malware, threats, and hacking better than any candidate we had interviewed for a variety of positions. When we hired Mike as a cybersecurity engineer, we were concerned because of his lack of SIEM experience and the fact that he was thrown into a situation where he was around people that had been working with SIEMs for years. Within weeks he had a good understanding of our operation and was building advanced SIEM correlation rules and excellent SOC use cases. His documentation skills are through the roof. His aptitude was obviously unparallelled to anything I've ever seen on picking up new things such as SIEM, SOC, and so many one-off MSSP client procedures. He was also very professional in front of clients and almost immediately made positive contributions to our group. He naturally would dig into things on his own and figure things out quickly and immediately became an asset to SOC analysts when they sought a second opinion during an investigation. What really impressed me was his love for cybersecurity. He has done projects outside of work that are beyond most organizations' threat intelligence capabilities. Not only is he talented in information security, he has a good understanding of network architecture and cloud technologies. He is the full package as a cybersecurity professional.
