I am a PhD Candidate at Yale University researching galaxy interactions and the formation of dark matter free galaxies with Prof. Pieter van Dokkum.I have extensive experience in research, observing, teaching. I am the author of 15 papers, of which 4 are first author works, with a total of 202 citations and an h-index of 9. My work has appeared in Nature, The Astrophysical Journal Letters, The Astrophysical Journal, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, and Physical Review C. I have observed in classical mode with Keck for 14 nights, Magellan for 2 nights, and Dragonfly for 42 nights. I have written two successful observing proposals as PI, 32.5 hrs with MeerKAT and 40 hrs with the VLA, including a specially selected NRAO Student Observing Support funding award. I have also been a co-I on 7 successful proposals for JWST, HST, and Keck. I have been a teaching assistant for 4 physics courses and 4 astronomy courses.I do most of my current work in Python, but have previously worked in C++, C, Fortran (2003), R, and Java, as well as software packages including MRF, GALFIT, SExtractor, Photutils, GalPy, AIPS, CASA, MESA, and GYRE. I also have formal experience in machine learning and distributed data mining through various courses at Leiden University, “Advances in Data Mining,” “Neural Networks,” and “Distributed Data Mining,” wherein I applied popular algorithms to TB-scale data, used Keras Neural Networks to classify images, and led two teams of five CS PhD students to analyze radio survey data.For more information about my work visit www.michaelalankeim.com
