Topics include the 2001 anthrax attacks, the debate about whether or not to destroy smallpox stockpiles, the Ebola outbreak in Africa, food- and water-borne illnesses, and the anti-vaccination movement that has yielded spikes in diseases such as measles and whooping cough.Science and Social Justice − Students consider the past, present and possible future of disease and analyze what the experts say can and should be done to keep us healthy and safe. They discuss vulnerable populations and write about how racism, poverty and privilege relate to disease, treatment and health outcomes.
