Accountable Executive and Lead Distinguished Engineer for OneKube, Capital One’s enterprise Kubernetes solution based on Amazon EKS. Responsible for the design and development of cluster lifecycle tooling to support the provisioning, maintenance, and administration of over 200 clusters across multiple lines of business. Clusters meet Capital One’s strict requirements for container platforms - providing runtime policy enforcement and governance, workload least privilege, and network isolation. Enterprise integrations provide OIDC authentication via SSO, user authorization via limited-scope tokens, and integration with enterprise monitoring and logging systems. Lifecycle and maintenance tasks are fully automated and integrated into the enterprise change management system. Other responsibilities include: Defining the enterprise Kubernetes strategy and roadmap; working with stakeholders to align priorities and collaborate on key deliverables; and increasing cloud and container maturity. Responsible for the design, development, and operations of the department’s Kubernetes platform and infrastructure.

Part of a horizontal function focused on driving the department’s platform strategy and modernization. Led efforts to develop the department's SRE discipline, streamline the SDLC, modernize API design using Hexagonal Architecture, and build automated blue/green deployment pipelines which ensure applications are thoroughly tested and deployments are low risk with no downtime. Designed and built the department’s Kubernetes infrastructure to comply with the company's strict requirements for container platforms. The entire multi-region multi-account platform was built in weeks using open-source software.

Responsible for the architecture, program management, and hands-on implementation of the department’s multi-phase modernization effort, which includes: containerization of applications and APIs using Docker; container orchestration using Kubernetes; a cost-effective move to AWS; CICD to provide automated builds, automated testing, and no-downtime multi-region blue/green deployments; continual re-testing of deployed code; automating infrastructure and disaster recovery; and developing the team’s SDLC to provide for agile iterative development. Each phase was planned and executed as a stepping stone to the next providing quarterly deliverables. Developed set of REST APIs secured by OAuth2 which expose key functionality of the Identity Platform. The API was Implemented using Domain-driven Design principles and hexagonal architecture (ports and adaptors). As engineering lead, responsible for determining goals and milestones, scoping and planing sprints, designing and coding solutions, leading code reviews, teaching and mentoring, and helping set the overall course and tone for technology and engineering within the group.

Manager and technical leader for a multi-geographic engineering team. Worked directly with executive leadership to prioritize initiatives and resources. Oversaw the day-to-day technical operations of the company. Worked directly with clients on integrations. Developed a technical roadmap for a system-wide re-architecture and software redesign of the InGo application into a distributed service-oriented platform. Responsible for the architecture and development of backend systems and services for an innovative startup at the HUGE Labs incubator. Services included high-transaction low-latency entity storage APIs backed by MongoDB, advanced search capabilities using Solr, and social graphing using Neo4J. Clients communicated with the services via Spring Remoting and Java I/O serialization allowing any JVM language such as JRuby or Scala to consume them natively, as well as through a standards-compliant JSON REST API. Responsibilities included: system architecture; strategic and tactical software design; hands-on coding and engineering; ensuring consistent and reliable code is delivered by all teams; making sure decisions solved immediate concerns which were driving current goals; working with senior leadership to define product roadmaps; driving the technological vision of the platform; and providing day-to-day engineering leadership. Operational responsibilities included: managing Amazon Web Services (Route53, EC2, VPC, S3, CloudFront); continuous build using Jenkins; and automating the deployment of servers, systems, and applications using Chef.

Responsible for the architecture and development of backend systems and services for the KickApps Platform (a social SaaS platform). Backend services include the intake and retrieval of user-generated content such as photos, audio, and video; systems to tag, rate, and review uploaded content; commenting and messaging systems; and the management of users, relationships and activities. Responsible for modernizing the development and release processes. Worked closely with executive leadership to prioritize initiatives and resources.

Develop highly-available distributed web-based services and tools for the AOL family of brands and properties; including content management and scheduling tools, CDN origin tools, and user-driven content systems for ratings, reviews, comments, and polls.
