I am currently faculty at Northeastern University. My research interests center on understanding how designed things (images, spaces, objects, interfaces) can facilitate in difficult or high-stakes conversations. Applications are principally in the area of healthcare decision-making and facilitating democratic participation for municipal and regional governments. I teach a variety of courses, including design research methods, designing for civic conversations, and design & ethics.Concurrently, I run a design consultancy specializing in strategically oriented design practice: research, communications analysis and planning, as well as UI design and development for web, mobile and web-based applications. In the past I have taught research-informed design practice to students in business, computer science and fine arts.
