I worked on a B2B AP solutions application to help modernize how businesses pay and get paid. These solutions eliminate manual processes, reduce costs, increase security and provide greater control over cash flow.

Worked on a web application called VPR, Views Portfolio Reporting. Clients would use VPR to generate and execute reports, create schedules, update their profile and more. I mainly focused on bug fixes and UI enhancements using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Java was also used in the backend and I did some code refinement and enhancements as well. TDD was enforced using Jenkins, requiring all lines of code touched or added to be covered by a test. GIT and Maven were used to build the application. IntelliJ was used to view all the files of the application. The database was Oracle SQL Developer.

I worked for USAA Property & Casualty Auto team. The teams goal was to modernize the current system to produce much more modern looking documents. We would utilize Docker to deploy our images, SquirrelQL was used as our database and Java was the main language in practice. I would employ the help of their internally created UI to help create triggers which I could set to “be triggered”. Then I would use Kafka to publish the trigger into the input kafka stream, which would route to the application associated to that name. For Auto, there were several steps (at least 8) so there was an input name to directly publish a trigger to a particular step throughout the processing lifecycle of the overall application. The last kafka output stream held the result. Using that information we could then derive the final document using another service. The team was heavily Agile and an Agile life style was applied for the entire project. I gained more knowledge on even more tools and another insight into how coding works in the corporate world.

Throughout my time at the bank, I worked on three projects: WIMS, Juno and Erica. Each project provided me unique and valuable skills which I continue to utilize today. These skills include both technical and banking business logic. This was also my first role and so I more was at a stage in my career where I had to figure out how to utilize all the knowledge in a corporate setting.
