CEO RLWC and Chief Commercial Officer of NRLMichael developed and implemented a Strategic Plan for RLWC2017, endorsed by the Board and Rugby League International Federation.He prepared and managed a $100m operating budget, embracing commercial, government contributions and cost management protocols consistent with an international major event.He established business protocols for the entity, including recruitment and staffing, policies and procedures across all areas, including detailed operational plans.He worked with the Chairmen of RLWC2017 and NRL to implement a Stakeholder Management Program adopted by Clubs, State Associations and Member Federations to include a secondment program and operational efficiencies.He worked closely with Channel 7 as Host Broadcaster to provide a Match Schedule that meets event and broadcast needs.He secured over budget funding from five state and territories in Australia, PNG and NZ Governments.Michael launched RLWC2017 in Australia, NZ and PNG with leading players and personalities.After two months of being in this role, Michael was asked to take on the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) role at NRL, in addition to his RLWC2017 duties. The Commercial and Marketing team had been without a CCO for eight months and comprised 80 staff across commercial, sponsorship, marketing, major events, membership and licensing. The CCO is directly responsible for more than $400 million of NRL revenues. Michael resigned in July 2016 to return to Melbourne.

The Asian Cup was hosted in Austraila in January 2015 with the 46 countries — over half the world's population — of Asia seeking qualification. Matches were played in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra. Potential viewing audience was more than two billion people.Major achievements during period of tenure:Commercial/Financial650,000 people attended games at an average of over 22,000, with 380,000 attending non-Australian matches.Regarded by Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb as the Blueprint for future major events.Domestic television audiences for the final of 5.5 million. Engaged Tourism Australia, Austrade and state jurisdictions to activate Business Programs that leveraged key international partners.Executed Stadium Management Agreements in each Host City, which were delivered significantly under budget.Management of a $100 million P/L with an event profit of $23 million against a budget of $2 million.
