When I was about 11 years old I was on a hike with a friend who broke his arm. I turned my shirt into a sling and assisted him back to our campground so his Dad could take him to the hospital. This event set the tone for my life up to this point. I have worked in a variety of capacities as a first responder sense then. All with their own unique application of emergency medical services and technical rescue. As an Ocean Lifeguard I had the opportunity to perform hundreds of rescues in the ocean environment including large surf, rocky remote areas, and semi-offshore areas. I have provided emergency medical care to people experiencing a variety of medical and traumatic emergencies. Some of these incidents have occurred in remote coves that require a helicopter hoist or technical extrication techniques to extricate them to EMS transport or definitive care. Yet, aside from the daily duties as an Ocean Lifeguard, I had the fortune to be able to complete a multitude of projects at OCLG. Some of these projects and accomplishments are: Employee of the Year 2021Multiple OCLG Lifesaving AwardsPresident of the association, incorporated to a non-profit 501c3 and successfully acquired a grant to purchase much needed equipment; Worked to build employeemorale, physical fitness, and participation in surf lifesaving sporting events.Developed a presentation on various different lifeguarding tactics for the cadet academyWrote an employee manual chapter on knotsLed a meeting to develop OCLG’s Mission StatementRan an Ocean Lifeguard exhibit at an elemtary school career dayOrganized self-defense classes at a local Jiu Jitsu gymAssisted with Cadet Academy and CPR Training. At Woodward Park City worked as a ski and bike patroller. Alongside responding to traumatic and medical emergencies, I also had the opportunity to complete these projects: wrote the handheld Radio SOP, instruction chapter to the Woodward Park City Patrol Training Binder, designed and built rescue toboggan storage container for top of hill to protect rescue equipment. At University of Utah I studied Emergency Medical Services Management. Currently, I am completing an internship through the Universities Center for Emergency Programs writing the Opioid Overdose Response and Naloxone Administration Policy for their First Responders. I am expecting to graduate in August of 2024.I also have Search and Rescue experience with R.M.R.U.I am excited to one day apply these experiences as well as my other work experiences to position that will allow me to positively impact my community!
