I have been an officer with the Texarkana, Texas Police Department since August 2001 and hold a Master Peace Officer Certification. My wife and I were married in 1995 and have two sons. We live in Cass County, Texas near Queen City. After graduating from Queen City High School in 1995 I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Following my enlistment, I started with Texarkana, Texas Police Department, attending Northeast Texas Community College Police Academy. I have served the department as a Patrol Officer, Police Sergeant, and Police Lieutenant. I am a certified TCOLE Instructor and Firearms Instructor, and I have instructed multiple basic and in-service courses. I am also responsible for coordinating and supervising most of the department’s firearms qualifications, serving as the department range master, and I have been certified as an armorer for GLOCK handguns and the AR-15 weapons platform.In addition to my duties as a patrol shift commander, I was assigned to the department’s part time SWAT team in 2006, and I served as the team’s Tactical Commander from 2015 until 2021. I served as the department’s Problem Oriented Policing Team Field Commander for five years, tasked to work in partnership with the citizens of the city to reduce the fear of crime and improve their quality of life. The team also conducted tactical sting operations and drug trafficking investigations. I also served as the department’s police canine coordinator, responsible for supervising and coordinating the training of the police canines and canine handlers. While assigned as Support Services Sergeant, I was responsible for completing and disseminating media releases, participating in television and radio interviews, supervising employee recruiting and selection, planning and coordinating training events, and reporting training to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
