Prepares and presents documents to support underwriting recommendations to internal and external customers.

As a Group Underwriting Consultant I am responsible for determining the acceptable insurance risks and appropriate premium rates for large complex medical and dental cases. My responsibilities include calculating the medical rates for prospective business by utilizing a combination of the incumbent carrier’s monthly claim experience, industry, location, demographic data, reviewing and evaluating the group’s specific large claim report and manual rates. I manage an assigned medical book of business for established business based on a thorough analysis of the group’s industry, location, demographic data, high claimant cost report, and monthly claims experience.I also calculate the dental rates for prospective business and established business accounts as assigned by reviewing the group’s plan coverage, utilization reports and monthly claims experience. I participate in internal meetings with the sales and underwriting staff to address questions pertaining to benefit plan coverage, the measurable impact of benefit plan changes, and rating questions regarding prospective proposals and established business renewal projections.
