I'm an Indy Car racing fanatic who loves to consume audio books while exercising. Otherwise, my life is run by my two chihuahuas, Angelic Sky and Devil Riley. When they're not telling me what to do, I love watching movies with my honey Linda, and spending times with our two adult sons.I've been an avid student of public speaking and storytelling since 1994. But, I wasn't born with these insights. I know the fear and frustration that comes from public speaking failure. When I was 6 years old, I was humiliated in front of my first grade class. I was being punished for breaking a class rule and my teacher made me stand on my desk to make an example of me.When I was finally allowed to step down from that desk, I thought, “I'll never stand in front of people again - that was terrible!” That experience kept me from getting up in front of any group for the next twenty-five years. Jump ahead to 1994. I'm a Certified Financial Planner and ironically, part of my job is to present retirement planning workshops to prospective clients. I'm sitting in my boss's office. We're reviewing evaluations from a recent seminar I’d presented. He says, “Your speaking skills are lousy! Your stories suck! Fix this, or else.” That forced me to face my fears. Through work with world-class speakers and trainers, I discovered that public speaking is learnable - great speakers are not born, they’re MADE. After years of trial-and-error, I became more confident and influential when I stood up and spoke to audiences.
