Worked with Development teams to map out requirements and then build out code deployment automation using Gitlabs CI/CD and AWS CodePipeline and CodeBuild for several projects. Assisted in troubleshooting issues using CloudWatch and X-Ray. Helped redesign solutions to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

Gathered requirements, researched solutions including cost analysis, provided management and technical teams with the merits of the proposed solutions, and created the plans to implement the chosen solution for several large, high profile projects. This large government contract involved over 1 Petabyte of data and at the end of my work was growing at almost 100 Terabytes per month. Was one of the first GDIT Health and Civilian Solutions Division employees to work with AWS and became the first employee to receive AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional. For AWS projects I designed and help setup a shared infrastructure, leveraged CloudFormation to setup projects quickly, setup tagging for easy roll up on our financials, designed and helped setup a hybrid cloud with data exchanges of very sensitive PHI data.

Technical lead for infrastructure upgrades that included SAN, Servers, Firewall, and Networking.Worked with technical and business teams to define performance, security, and capacity requirements for new infrastructure that would support our projected growth and meet HIPPA and FISMA security requirements. Created the final system architecture which included Cisco UCS servers and network equipment, NetApp SAN/NAS storage arrays, VMware vCloud, and Vormetric encryption. Setup Linux servers using SSSD to connect to Windows AD with Kerberos. Setup template servers and deployed servers in the new environment.Worked with business units to migrate projects into new infrastructure. Setup BC/DR policies leveraging NetApp's ability to sync data to our DR site. This greatly reduces our RTO and RPO for critical systems. Technical lead for a major project migrating an application from the vendor who developed it to a new start-up company that contracted Telligen to provide IT services. Worked with original vendor to gather technical requirements for servers, backups, network, and storage. Worked with internal teams and various vendors to create the system architecture. Worked with Accounting and vendors on purchasing infrastructure components. Created Project Plan for IT infrastructure build. Worked with internal teams to setup the network, firewalls, SAN, servers (we used all virtual servers, either P series LPARS for AIX or VMware for Windows/Linux), backups, and applications. Led initial testing / troubleshooting. System is now over 12T (24T uncompressed) in size. Setup snapshots and clones of databases to greatly reduce disk space utilization in Test/QA environments. Developed Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) plan, worked with vendors and Accounting to negotiate pricing for BC/DR facilities, and successfully tested plan.

Managed the Unix and Windows servers, network, SAN, and backups for ADP's Des Moines facilities. This included 6 engineers, 125 Windows servers, 55 Unix servers, networking infrastructure, SAN and NAS disk, and Veritas backups systems. Created yearly budgets and presented them to upper management. Provided the vision for dealing with budget cuts and was instrumental in developing the plan for consolidating the Des Moines datacenter with the other larger datacenters to help realize substantial costs savings. Coordinated the migration effort to allow the migration of our services to the new locations with minimum impact to our customers. Made several presentations to business units to explain the migration process and help get acceptance and positive participation from all parties. Worked with business units to develop requirements for new projects and changes needed to our systems, and provided analysis of alternatives including the ROI for major projects. Provided architectural plans and project updates to allow tracking of major projects and coordination with other business partners.

Coordinate requirements, analysis, hardware and software purchasing, maintenance agreements, disaster recovery plans, system administration, application setup and support for all Unix (AIX and Linux) and Windows 2000 based servers and applications. Provide DB2 and Microsoft SQL 2000 DBA services. Coordinate with all third party vendors to insure secure, reliable data connections. Automate reporting of all critical functions via email and paging for serious conditions and failures. Help setup servers on SAN using Brocade switches for fiber connections or SCSI III for older servers.

Worked as Lead Unix and Windows NT Systems Analyst. Configured backups, network connections, security, printers, disaster recovery plans, and major applications for AIX, SCO and Windows NT platforms. Helped coordinate schedules, budgets, and prioritized all projects on these platforms. Worked with a wide range of hospital personnel and managers. Helped troubleshoot many application, system, and network problems.

Worked as Program Manager with a company specializing in communications between health care providers and payers. Responsibilities included working with clients and engineering to define requirements, scheduling, and verification procedures. Designed / helped develop the “generic model” for capturing requirements and implementing connections to new payers. Using this cut the time to implement new connections in half. Became very familiar with protocols in the insurance world. Developed several Access applications and became familiar with Front Page for Web work.

Instructor for Unix classes. Developed and taught the Beginning Internet classes. Customized base Unix classes for several clients. Worked with a very wide range of students in both on-site and open public classes throughout the country.

Lead systems engineer on the Maintenance Access Terminal for the Boeing 777 airplane. System is a customized Unix-based computer that features X-Windows and FDDI using a modified OSI stack. Responsibilities included requirement analysis, tool development, test development, and systems integration. At our peak I managed 12 software technicians and engineers. Received award for work in overcoming problems with our platform and major contributions to making our deliveries on time.
