I am the Industrial Research Chair in Northern Energy Innovation at Yukon University. I lead an applied research program that is governed and directed by the CEOs and managers of the electric power utilities in the three territories: ATCO Electric Yukon, Northwest Territories Power Corporation, Qulliq Energy Corporation, and Yukon Energy Corporation. I work in close partnership with Indigenous communities, energy champions, and governments to support a just energy transition. My research areas of expertise include integrating a high penetration of renewable generation in remote communities, diesel efficiencies, demand-side management, smart grids and microgrids. I received my Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering at McGill University, focusing on microgrid control and multi-objective optimization, and my Bachelor’s of Applied Science at the University of Toronto focusing on electric power systems. I was an author, contributor, and convenor to the international CIGRÉ working groups on “Microgrids”, “Hybrid Systems for Off-grid Power Supply”, “Rural Electrification”, and “Distribution Customer Empowerment”, and is the Canadian representative for the Study Committee C6 on “Active Distribution Systems and Distributed Energy Resources”. I am a registered Professional Engineer with Engineers Yukon, a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of Alaska, member of the IEEE Northern Canada Section, a member of CIGRÉ Canada, and a Level 1 electrician apprentice.I have developed strong managerial experience, supervising 96 early career professionals and students and growing my annual budget from $400k per year to over $1.48M per year. I am a certified Project Management Professional, and I am currently pursuing my Executive MBA at the Smith School of Business at Queen's University.
