For the past decade, I have had the unique honor of using my lifelong, personal passion for music to help break and nurture the careers of countless artists. From a function perspective, I’ve spent most of my career in sales, streaming, and commercial partnerships roles — working on behalf of artists & labels with key partners like YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music. But my biggest strengths have always been these: a true, undying excitement for music and culture and my natural ability to build & maintain relationships of all kinds. I have never considered myself to be the average music executive. I was the kid who was himself musically-inclined, both singing and playing piano at a young age. That creative drive was ignited during the CD era, when I would spend much of my time combing through the liner notes of every release I could get my hands on — learning the names of every songwriter or producer and educating myself further by figuring out the origins of every sample that I heard. That innate fascination with music history & culture has aided me in every aspect of my career. It has enabled me to connect with artists and managers on a different level, because my knowledge shows that I share the same level of passion as they do. Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate to work at all of the Big 3 major label groups — spearheading successful commercial campaigns for a variety of acts including Cardi B, Nipsey Hussle, Janelle Monáe, Lil Uzi Vert, Meek Mill, Yo Gotti, Rick Ross, Giveon, Future, Muni Long, and Coco Jones (among many others). Moving into streaming at a pivotal moment, when the medium (during its 2017-2018 boom) was dominated by hip-hop, I became one of the first major label hires whose specific focus was to use my unique understanding of Black music & culture in order to help achieve eye-popping commercial business results for the label, while also securing culturally-relevant, one-of-one partnerships for our artists. Aside from R&B and hip-hop, I have also been able to expand my scope of work into other genres such as gospel, pop, Latin, country, and Afrobeats. I have been recognized as a Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Player (2021) and highlighted in HITS Daily Double as an industry noisemaker (2020).My passion for music, artists & culture extends beyond my work at record labels. I also currently serve as a board governor for The Recording Academy’s New York Chapter — using both my knowledge of the business and my talent for relating to artists to further advocate for them in a wider capacity.
