About Michael Hay
As non-linear and irregular as my career map is, there are some strong threads throughout my many experiences. I have a strong work ethic, courage of conviction and drive for achievement which has seen me naturally move into leadership roles at every stage of my career. Whilst the roles have changed, I have never stopped looking for improvement either in myself or in the processes that I was involved in. This has made me an extremely adaptable leader with over 12 years experience in multinationals, 9 of those in leadership roles. Recognised for finding creative solutions, thriving on challenges and getting things done.I learnt to balance conflicting priorities from a young age; I started working at age 15 whilst I continued my studies as well as playing high level sport. In all 3 of these areas of my life, I continued to develop, improve and progress. I graduated high school and moved to University, whilst becoming a leader and manager at work. At 19, I was juggling full time university with a full time job coordinating the marketing plans for a chain of 10 restaurants. Whilst I continued to play rugby league at this time, it was a distant 3rd on my priorities. However, in 2005, funnily enough, it was sport that provided me the opportunity of a lifetime. I took a 12 month sabbatical to move to Bordeaux, France to play professional sport and learn a language. That 1 year led to another and then I had an offer to move to Montpellier to continue both my sporting and corporate careers in Europe. I went on to spend over 10 years in France continuing my multifaceted life; training and playing a demanding sport at an elite level and gaining valuable work experiences in multinational companies. When my body eventually failed me, I was able to transition into a director role of the sporting club. I was also able to leverage the network I built in those years to start a unique tourism enterprise, Ze Pub Crawl Montpellier. After 2 long summers of providing a VIP experience to clients in the bars and clubs of Montpellier 6 nights a week, it turns out that partying for a living is tiresome. In the summer of 2016, I took a short term coaching role with the Hungarian Rugby League Federation instead of a 3rd party season. But like my temporary move to France, that 3 months in Budapest became over 6 years working at Exxonmobil.I held many varying O2C analyst and leadership roles covering supply and logistics systems before deciding to move the family home to Australia with Galderma.
