The Scratch of a Pen provides academic editing services for those writing college papers, dissertations, and other capstone projects. We offer comprehensive editing and APA services and work one-on-one with students in all stages of their writing projects.

Co-founded a writing center to assist graduate psychology students with writing, research, APA formatting, and guiding a step-by-step process in completing their capstone project. Once the projects are finished, I conduct the final edit/proofreading and publish it to the university's website.

Proofread and edit graduate students’ dissertations for grammar and spelling and to verify compliance with APA format and ensure that they match the CRP Style Manual 6th Edition. By this time, the dissertations have been approved by the students’ committees and require editing and proofreading to check citations, references, grammar and organization. Dissertations are expected to be of doctoral level and publishable quality. Work is done independently from home.

Assist students in improving writing skills, understanding APA and interpreting and understanding literature courses and assignments on a one-on-one basis. Sessions include discussing individual methods to strengthen writing abilities, properly citing and formatting in APA style, finding university level sources and developing ideas into fully realized papers. English is frequently a student’s second language, so tutorials also cover elements of literature such as iambic pentameter, theme, metaphor, symbolism and cultural nuances of English language literature. Other duties require keeping detailed records of requests and other relevant data including student satisfaction.

Design develop and teach English composition and writing classes in on-site, on-line and blended format to undergraduate and graduate students. Classes currently include Composition I and Graduate Academic Writing and cover comprehensive areas of narrative and persuasive writing, thesis statements and sentences, process and technical writing, understanding of audience, research, attributions and formatting in APA style.
