In late 2013 I was seconded from Protection Design into the role of Business Diversification Analyst. The secondment was to the Business Diversification group that was created to evaluate and develop business diversification options to add additional non-regulated revenue streams to the business. The Business Diversification team focused on growing non-prescribed business in two areas, infrastructure and telecommunications. With my experience in the telecommunications side of TransGrid’s business I evaluated TransGrid’s core telecommunications capabilities from a technical and geographic standpoint to provide context for the telecommunications services business expansion report. Content for the report included forecasting of the potential revenue associated with a potential expansion of TransGrid’s non-regulated telecommunication business. I was involved in sourcing figures/financial information of TransGrid’s current position by liaising internally with ICT, finance and the customer engagement groups. Through the telecommunications and infrastructure business expansion reports, multiple board presentations and internal consultation, ‘developing new business’ was included as a strategic change initiative for 2014 – 2015. This initiative, and its targets, have been carried over into 2015 - 2018 and continue to have support from the board as a strategic change initiative.
