About Michael Kunkel
I help discover and empower the next generation of global development professionals. Coming from a variety of career fields and personal backgrounds, I work with changemakers who want to use their talents in pursuit of world peace and friendship. There are many opportunities to serve others in this life, so I spend my days outreaching, supporting, and guiding people in their search for a fulfilling international immersion experience. The majority of my professional career has been about connecting people with services and opportunities that can help them actualize their greatest potential. This has played out in positions I’ve held in education, social services, hospitality, and now government. I love sharing the Peace Corps experience with others and showing people how versatile and rewarding development work can be. It’s certainly not easy and it’s not for everyone, but I think everyone should at least have the chance to learn about these opportunities to positively impact our interconnected global communities. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served as an English teacher in Madagascar, I know firsthand why this work still matters in the global context and how life changing it can be. I firmly believe in the agency’s mission and I’m constantly looking for others who want to bring that same level of commitment and cooperation to the local community level. I take great pride in guiding individuals through what can sometimes feel like an overwhelming journey and utilizing my creativity and coaching skills to assist them. When I’m not recruiting, I’m usually experimenting with new vegetarian recipes, exploring coffee shops in New York City, or binge watching period dramas on Netflix. Connect with me here for updates on local events and check out all the programs we’re currently recruiting for at www.peacecorps.gov/volunteer/volunteer-openings.
