The Middleberg Riddle Group is a full-service legal provider offering litigation, transactional, and regulatory compliance & consulting services. The firm specializes in the financial services industry, as well as real estate developers, health care organizations, and various hospitality industry providers.I joined in creating Middleberg Riddle after gaining early experience in litigation, banking and real estate at two large Dallas-based law firms. I'm it’s managing director and run the Dallas office focusing on all facets of both residential and commercial real estate, as well as mortgage banking activities.The constantly changing regulatory environment impacts the financial services area and creates on-going issues for our clients. I understand how to counsel complex organizations, work with involved management structures, and implement the kinds of regulatory compliance structures that those groups need.By way of example, we created a product solution called MRGDocs to assist mortgage banking clients with the complex problems involved in creating and delivering loan origination documents. This included regulatory consulting along with a software platform. This division grew substantially involving more than a hundred people. The solution set the standard in regulatorily compliant document generation for the mortgage lending industry. I directly managed this business for more than twenty years. The firm ultimately sold that activity to Asurity Technologies.Looking forward, one thing hasn’t changed - government regulation and financial compliance requirements. If anything, they’re getting more complex. It takes someone with years of experience and a constant pulse on the issues. Its where I fit. I look to partner with corporate general counsel and chief compliance officers to provide effective legal consultation services, both to solve existing regulatory or litigation issues and, perhaps more importantly, to help avoid future problems.

It’s experienced compliance and technology staff form a collaborative unit that is focused on delivering document solutions representing a full range of “best practices” for mortgage document preparation and delivery. These solutions ensure compliance with the vast number of government regulations that govern mortgage origination and deliver a streamlined loan origination platform that relieves the burden and time associated with completing the compliant documentation required in real estate financial transactions.The Asurity Mortgage Group evolved from our client work at Middleberg Riddle Group. As we provided legal services and regulatory advisory service to more and more financial services clients, the opportunity to create and deliver the software as a product offering materialized. We created The Mortgage Resource Group, LLC (“MRG”) and, ultimately, Asurity Technologies bought the company. Having led the team and product solution at MRG, I continued as president after the acquisition and ensured a smooth integration with Asurity Technologies.During this period, we continued to dramatically expand the software’s capabilities. This product platform, now called AsurityDocs, sets the national standard for quality compliance management in the mortgage banking industry and has twice been named a winner of the Progress in Lending Association annual technology award.

It became, during the 1980s, one of the largest law firms in Texas dedicated to serving the banking industry. It was deeply engaged in assisting it’s lending clients navigate the savings and loan crisis that engulfed the financial services sector during the late 80s
