Michael Lyne is currently a sports reporter at the West Central Tribune in Willmar, covering all things sports in west central Minnesota. Previously Michael spent his college days working at the Minnesota Daily, where he covered Gophers gymnastics, men’s hockey, and soccer. He excels in a fast-paced environment that includes deadline writing, and Michael’s strength is feature writing. You can expect him to communicate clearly, and he’s passionate about covering underrepresented teams in the media. A graduate from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, Michael interned with MinnPost (higher education reporter) and the Pioneer Press (sports reporter). As a Spanish minor, Michael also spent a few years of college working at MLatino Media, where he improved his Spanish skills by creating weekly COVID-19 newsletters. Michael has also freelanced for USA Hockey and MinnPost throughout his young writing career. Michael found sports journalism due to two passions: writing and sports. To help disseminate his work to the people that follow the west central Minnesota sports he covers, Michael live tweets and shares all of the stories he writes on his Twitter page: @mikeylyne5. Michael grew up in Eagan, Minn., and is the middle child of seven. He enjoys spending his free time with family and friends outside of his reporting works. You can find him exercising, playing games, and watching sporting events.
