UK Export Finance (UKEF) is the UK’s export credit agency, providing billions of pounds of support for UK exporters.(a) Conducted portfolio credit risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulations, presented results at Credit Committee, and implemented measures to enhance data quality to ensure precision in risk assessments and accurate pricing for future business.(b) Built an extensive dataset spanning thousands of exporters, and trained and evaluated twelve machine learning models based on their capacity to identify good candidate companies for utilising UKEF's products. Safeguarded data lineage with meticulously documented Python code and workflow visualisations.

I was responsible for refining and expanding the range of UKEF's export-enhancing products. Five highlights were:(a) Senior Responsible Officer for the development and launch of the "game-changing" General Export Facility, publicly supported by the Chancellor and Prime Minister. Required close collaboration with five major UK banks, including agreeing legal documentation, data definitions and data reporting requirements.(b) Catalysed the rejuvenation and digitalisation of UKEF’s export insurance product. Conducted a comprehensive cross-divisional discovery, identified key product data requirements, undertook market research, and delivered the necessary proposal to trigger a project.(c) Authored one of the top scoring proposals to the Department for International Development’s “Prosperity Fund”; a multi-million-pound “Concessional Export Finance Facility” to boost UK exports whilst supporting Developmental goals.(d) Drove a multi-billion pound expansion in the capacity and flexibility of some of UKEF's fixed interest rate products. Used persuasive analysis and data visualisations to gain buy-in from HM Treasury Ministers.(e) Developed the first iteration of a portfolio management framework and used it to procure reinsurance (via competitive bidding) to mitigate portfolio risk concentrations; all underpinned by extensive data analysis.(f) Enabled a more uniform customer experience by developing an evolving, internal encyclopaedia of underwriting policies and process checklists. It is now ingrained in the organisation's culture.

Responsible for assessing economic data and political risks in countries to which the Department had actual or potential credit exposure and used those assessments to recommend appropriate credit ratings, at Credit Committee (e.g., BBB+). Separately, developed a data-driven framework to assign scores to various exotic currencies and gained Credit Committee approval for certain UKEF products to become accessible in currencies scoring above an agreed threshold.

Provided internal statistical consultancy services. This included using SQL and R to evaluate the effectiveness of various offender rehabilitation schemes, supporting the Minister’s preferred strategy of privatisation by ranking bids, and forecasting the cost of newly privatised schemes that were operated on a “pay-by-results” basis.

Traded futures based on order flow and breaking news events. In parallel, used Python to analyse gold futures price data and develop a systematic mean-reversion strategy.

Obtained and analysed a diverse range of data sources to provide clarity to ICAP's clients and in-house brokers regarding the current and future state of global trade and shipping.
