IN-HOUSE COUNSEL WITH 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE working proactively with management to grow business by providing timely and cost-effective legal guidance.Litigation • Commercial Real Estate • Risk Management • Regulatory ComplianceI have been an attorney for 30 years. I have been a trial attorney and managed a law office for a large firm. My practice focused on litigation, real estate leasing and sales, construction, consumer protection law, environmental law, and regulatory compliance. My clients ranged from a top 10 Fortune 500 company to businesses and individuals.I am presently in-house counsel for one of the largest privately owned real estate companies in the United States. The company includes multi-state residential and commercial real estate brokerages, insurance company, title company, and mortgage lender and an international relocation company. There, I regularly advise and collaborate with senior leadership on day-to-day operations. I oversee litigation, commercial real estate transactions including the leasing, purchase, sale, development, and redevelopment of office locations, investment properties, and commercial and housing projects, risk management, and regulatory compliance in several highly regulated industries. I also draft and review contracts with vendors and with employees and independent contractors. As litigation supervisor, and a litigator myself, I retain, supervise, and work alongside outside counsel to aggressively defend against lawsuits in a cost-effective way. I also supply business segment leaders, insurers and re-insurers with reports of litigation and claims including the cost of defense and the potential exposure. I oversaw, and now manage, the Legal Department’s transition to a cloud-based matter management program. That transition enabled increased oversight of legal spending on outside counsel and resulted in significant cost savings for the company. I developed and present risk management and regulatory compliance classes for the sales force.I am both a team player and capable of completing projects with minimal resources and oversight.Prior to becoming a lawyer, I was a captain and combat arms officer in the US Army. While in law school, I was an associate editor of the law review. I also clerked for the Environmental Crimes Section of the US Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. After law school, I clerked for two trial court judges before joining a law firm.I am a husband, father, and an avid, if not particularly good, golfer.
