    Having started at Spotify as the Manager of a single squad of 7 Engineers, my influence has grown to now manage three highly efficient, delivery-focused squads in the Messaging Platform—18 Engineers, comprising the majority of the Product Area. The teams are responsible for functionality across multiple backend core capabilities as well as user-focused mobile client orchestration and delivery. We are building and maintaining extremely high-scale and high-accuracy systems with very low latency throughput.* Initiated and led a Product Area domain modeling project which has become the basis of a platform effort to clarify both team topology and architectural alignment with the business model.* Assessed a squad with widely disparate domain knowledge and experience, and then devised and implemented a custom, delivery-focused Agile workflow based on dual-track Agile, mob programming, priority focus, and reduced story size, thereby dramatically increasing both delivery and predictability.* Deployed an “Enablement Pod” of Senior and Staff Engineers to improve platform adoption for internal users and other technical teams (via APIs).* Initiated multiple successful practices for gaining whole-platform process alignment like holding regular cross-squad support retrospectives, and introducing a quarterly team health assessment.

    I led an all-remote team of over 50 Software Engineers and Directors, both full-time and contractors, for a tech team which operated with an annual budget of over $20 million. Our team supported Bootcamps, one of four business lines for the parent company, 2U, Inc, and my role was accountable for setting and executing the engineering and architectural vision for all client-facing software. The initial focus of my work was to mature Bootcamps’ capability to enterprise level, and to mitigate the risks of the software stack.* Created a clear vision of the team’s future interoperability architecture and infrastructure by collaborating across a wide range of departments such as DevOps, Cybersecurity, and Engineering, and then built a team of engineers with the appropriate skills to execute the plan.* Elevated engineering capability by attracting and hiring senior talent, and bringing control of company intellectual property in house, which reduced contractor vendor lock-in.* Introduced and implemented a skills-matrix promotion and mentoring process to ensure that promotions went to those who deserved them, contributing to a cross-business-line alignment of levels.* Standardized inclusive hiring practices by helping initiate the Employee Experience Committee DEI group which created interview guidelines to help eliminate bias across the Tech organization.* Increased the team’s monitoring capability by implementing log aggregation and performance metrics, resulting in consistent self-identification of issues formerly reported by stakeholders or support teams.* Served on the Engineering Advisory Council focusing on initiatives such as encouraging test-driven development, continuous integration, agile development practices, automation, and pair programming.* Directed Master Data Model governance in partnership with a peer in the Data Science organization resulting in a shared, distributed data model for the company.
