Lead the Amazon Local Core Product Engineering org. Built a scalable portfolio of web and mobile applications and platform of services that enabled local, offline merchants to manage and grow their businesses online.

Manager of the software development, quality assurance, and program management teams for the buying experience for Amazon digital products. We brought over a dozen products to market in over a dozen countries, including Kindle e-readers, Fire tables, Fire TV, and Fire Phone. Also lead teams to create Kindle personal and library lending, Kindle Special Offers, and other programs.

Created geolocation-based delivery location selection system - ajax front-end and webservice backend that interoperates with multiple map and geolocation data providers.Built external-facing webservice to connect external partner's point-of-sale systems with Amazon payments. Migrated live multiple-terabyte database reaching data capacity to new larger database, compressing data on the fly. Zero downtime through migration.Created new UX for customer service associates to assess context and priority of customer contacts. Required changes at all levels - database, service, and front-end.

Owned, rearchitected, and implemented core 'Intelligent Routing' optimization engine including: optimization algorithms, combinatorical problems, and networking (WAN) problems. Took system from responding once per day to changing network conditions to reacting in real-time. Streamlined system, eliminating 1/3 of the its classes while improving maintanability and performance. Improvements to platform saved $800,000+ per year and improved network performance. Added multiple 'service class' capability to optimization engine. Created full-featured applet version of data visualization GUI, including custom cryptographic and networking code.Rewrote usage-based billing system. Owned and extended genetic algorithm-based system to probe internet latency and packet loss and generate optimized routing table.Part of team that rewrote distributed, file-based, operationally intensive data collection application to be centralized, RDBMS-based, highly-fault tolerant and almost maintanance-free, thus saving at least one man-week per month. System was also unit, integration, and regression tested and ran issue-free for well over 3 years.Improved development process for team: implemented continuous integration - automated build and unit testing, created wiki for development group, streamlined revision control process, streamlined defect tracking, improved requirement lifecycle (requirement, use case, acceptance test), promoted cross-developer knowledge of parts of system, organized seminars to investigate new technologies/methodolgies in development group
