Michael has 32 years of experience in biological mass spectrometry analyzing proteins, peptides, post translational modifications, glycans and biomolecules ranging from model compounds to whole proteome analysis. His focus at KBI has been on characterization of mAbs, biosimilars, fusion proteins, multi-specific antibodies and proteins, protein vaccines and peptide drugs via intact analyses, peptide & disulfide mapping, released glycan profiling, site occupancy and degradation analysis (glycan, PEG, PTMs), and quantitative monitoring of peptides or post-translationally modified peptides under cGMP conditions. He has developed Multi Attribute Monitoring (MAM) methods to support analytical development and manufacture of drug products. Prior to joining KBI Biopharma, Michael worked on proteomic and biopharmaceutical applications in the MS Applications Laboratory for Waters Corporation, and was involved in the seminal work with alternate scanning LC-MS (LC-MSE), a label-free qualitative and quantitative approach to analyze complex proteomic and biopharmaceutical samples. He has collaborated with the Laboratory of Malaria Immunology and Vaccinology, NIAID-NIH applying LC-MSE in proteomic studies of Plasmodium falciparum, which causes clinical disease due to free blood stage parasites (merozoites), to identify candidates for new malaria vaccine development. He has managed cGMP personalized medicine analytical method development through validation and support for Phase I testing. Additionally, Michael has established workflows at KBI for host cell protein analyses in support of process development and HCP screening and quantitation of in-process samples and drug products.
