Design Engineer
I am working with a team of fellow design ninjas to develop products from concept to reality. Oftentimes, that starts with a lot of user research, then quickly transitions through ideation, concept sketching, 3D modeling, rapid prototyping, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and production.
Owner
I provided a cost-effective option for inventors and start-ups to turn their consumer product ideas into realities through industrial design, 3D modeling, rendering, engineering analysis, and rapid prototyping. I progressed and developed innovative products in a variety of industries, including: - A quick-release ATV door pin- A much sleeker and user-friendly MIDI piano keyboard- A quick-cleaning painting tool- A cost-saving medical product for nosebleeds- An engaging executive desktop toy- A more convenient bear canister for backpackers
Product Engineer
I developed consumer products (primarily plastic injection molded) for low-cost manufacturability, ease of use, and mechanical integrity throughout their lifecycles. Specifically, I helped develop: - A wireless doorbell/camera product, as well as a related, mountable, removable, pivotable, wireless, in-home security camera smaller than a pool ball- Several mechanisms on a collapsible, user-friendly shovel- Several interlocking, construction-based children's products (similar to a Lego concept), with a specific focus on compatibility with their other product lines and manufacturability via plastic injection molding - A kitchen cabinet and countertop system that is meant to improve the contractor's and the homeowner's experience by providing a lower-cost, more aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional installation systems- A beef jerky dispensing container, including optimization for thermoforming production
Freelance Product Developer
I provided a range of product development services, including 3D modeling, rapid prototyping (e.g. 3D printing), FEA testing, and rendering.
Mechanical Engineer
I helped develop the analytical infrastructure necessary to evaluate ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) contractors' proposed engineering designs. I led a 100+ person, interdisciplinary team in creating a program-level IMS (Integrated Master Schedule) to improve program execution. I expedited development of a trade-space exploration tool by six months by coordinating with an additional DoD department and integrating its similar, but generic, tool.
R&D Engineer / Applications Engineer
I developed two technologies intended to more accurately control product flow out of hoppers and in-line conveyors. I created AutoCAD layout drawings of individual components within a piece of equipment, as well as layouts of the entire facility into which the equipment would be placed, so that space, utility, and operational limitations were confirmed to be sufficient. I formulated, translated, and reformatted technical user manuals to make them more understandable for their readers. I developed a predictive, mathematical model with which Heat and Control saved hundreds of man-hours that had previously been used to empirically develop massive Excel spreadsheets to calibrate their equipment.
Cofounder & Graduate Research Fellow
My team and I obtained over $150,000 in venture capital funding to finalize the design, begin manufacturing, and bring the Levaté wheelchair lift to market (www.LevateLift.com). I helped in further developing both the lift itself and Levaté Lift's business plan to improve the reach and independence of over 19,000 manual wheelchair users in five years. In my role as Graduate Research Fellow, I designed a universal, wheel-powered repressurization attachment to enable day-long operation of Levaté, without the need for at-home or on-board electric air compressors.
Team Leader, Agile Product Design Team
My team and I designed a medical accessory called IvTEC (In-vivo Tool for Electrocautery Cleaning) to clean electrocautery tools during robotic surgeries. With its use, patient safety could be increased by 7-14%, due to decreased time under anesthesia. I led the interdisciplinary intern team in customer discovery, divergent ideation, and customer feedback, so as to best understand our users (robotic surgeons and nurses) and those effected by the product (patients). After iteratively prototyping 10 versions of IvTEC with Solidworks, 3D printers, and machining tools, we handed over the concept to the Univ. of Oklahoma's technology commercialization team, who is in talks with a medical device manufacturer about IvTEC's commercialization.
Marketing Consultant
Starting with a technology from Lawrence Livermore National Lab, I performed a market analysis to determine the optimal market for the technology's licensee to pursue. In eight weeks, my team and I decided upon the ideal market and formulated a business model outlining how the technology's owner could make that goal a reality.
Agile Product Design Intern
As part of an interdisciplinary team, I formulated a socially-conscious problem revolving around height-related challenges faced by wheelchair users. I then ideated a variety of solutions and iteratively prototyped, receiving firsthand feedback from users constantly. By the end of the program, our team had formed a company, Levaté LLC, with our wheelchair lift as its launching product.
Software Development Intern
I developed several data-processing modules which were responsible for "scrubbing" and processing 50 GB of data daily, which doubled the system's capabilities and is still in use today. My team and I adapted to Agile and Scrum methodologies to cooperate across disciplines to explore more efficient technologies that could be utilized by Clearwater.
