Coordinated with silicon and hardware teams to design audio, compute, and on-device ML inference capabilities.Designed and supervised the server and client runtimes of the Facebook Assistant stack, incorporating speech recognition, natural language understanding, entity resolution, dialog, natural language generation, and text-to-speech components, employing a variety of ML and algorithmic technologies.Provided guidance and technical expertise to the Knowledge Graph project, which powers the Assistant runtime for entity resolution and question answering, as well as in numerous other internal Facebook and Instagram systems.

Conceived, designed, and led implementation of the Reactivity Gateway, a secure web messaging product used by major financial and manufacturing companies. Acquired by Cisco Systems in March 2007.Responsibilities:- Architected and led development of a highly configurable HTTP reverse proxy product with a rich Java-based web front end.- Implemented event-based HTTP/HTTPS proxy capable of sustaining >50,000 TPS with argument validation and configurable policy (C/C++).- Implemented streaming XML parser capable of >1000Mbit well-formedness validation, XML schema validation, 15000 TPS XML Signature validation, XML Encryption, XSL.- Implemented SAML single-sign-on protocol and represented Reactivity at Liberty Alliance interop events.- Provided technical expertise during fundraising- Interfaced with senior architects at customer sites to explain the product and develop product roadmap

Designed and implemented Jux2.com, a "compare these search engines" website. Jux2.com won "Best Meta Search Engine" of 2004 from SearchEngineWatch.com, and was sold in 2005.

Worked with startup teams to incubate new ventures inside Reactivity, raise initial funding, and spin out ventures as standalone companies.- Zaplet, Inc., raised series A funding from Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers for their AppMail interactive inbox product. I invented the core technology for Zaplet, developed the prototype, and transitioned the technology once the company was spun out. Zaplet's IP was purchased by Xobni, Inc.- CenterRun raised series A funding from Sequoia Capital for their datacenter automation product. I was the architect for the product startup team and developed the initial prototype of the product. CenterRun was acquired by Sun Microsystems.- In 2001, responding to economic changes, Reactivity changed from an incubator to a direct product model and I became Chief Architect.

Researcher and prototyping engineer in the Advanced Technology Group. Worked on early application servers, contextual browsing and searching interfaces, and client-side metasearch technology.- Wrote version 1.0 of "Sherlock", a MacOS-based program for searching multiple locations of information on the Internet. This was the first application of TCP/IP in an application that shipped with the MacOS. The "search plugin" format that I developed for this application has become the de facto standard for search definition.- Developed prototypes of graphical web page editors and one of the first application servers.
