My professional focus and passion is helping companies throughout the world grow their businesses through the negotiation and closing of acquisitions, joint ventures, new project developments and commercial agreements for organic growth. Throughout my more than 25-year career as corporate counsel and in private practice I’ve handled corporate and commercial transactions of all types and sizes for American, European and Asian clients across multiple industries in the United States, China, Thailand, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Australia, Motivated by my desire to work internationally and take part in the Asian economic boom, I joined Baker McKenzie’s Bangkok office in 1996 after serving in Thailand as a Peace Corps Volunteer and attending the University of Washington School of Law for its Asian law program. For 10 years I rode the boom and bust, doing deals, building my practice, co-founding a law firm and becoming a leading corporate and M&A lawyer in Thailand as recognized by Global Counsel. In 2006, I jumped at the opportunity to be part of the growing renewables sector and to do deals in China by joining Covanta as its Asia Pacific General Counsel. I helped Covanta to first expand its Asian business through the acquisition and development of multiple waste-to-energy plants and then to reap the rewards of that growth through divestment of its Asian independent power project and waste-to-energy businesses. The pandemic and Covanta's decision to exit from its Asian business gave me the opportunity to move back to my home state of California in 2020 and to work remotely on US corporate and commercial matters as I continued to wind down and close our Asian operations. The subsequent acquisition of Covanta by the private equity firm EQT at the end of 2021 once again gave me the opportunity to do the type of work I truly enjoy. Since 2022, I have assisted Covanta with the growth of its environmental services business through the acquisition and integration of 8 new environmental services companies and the negotiation of multiple master service and profiled waste disposal agreements with Fortune 500 and other large US-based companies, with this new focus on the environmental services sector having recently culminated in the rebranding of Covanta as Reworld Waste.

In addition, I have primary responsibility for the legal matters and commercial contracts of Reworld’s metals recovery and ash processing business and am working with that group to implement a new ash processing facility at our H-Power WtE plant in Hawaii and to secure intellectual property rights for its new technology. My significant achievements since joining Reworld (formerly Covanta at the time) in the US include completing the sale of Reworld’s China business and contributing to environmental services growth by facilitating the completion of the acquisition of 7 environmental services companies in 2022 as internal legal lead and negotiating and finalizing multiple high-value master services agreements with large national corporate clients as well as a high value federal government subcontract.
