(Hillrom acquired Voalte.)Oversaw a remote-first, geographically distributed Software Engineering department of approximately 80 people. Built mobile-centric communication software products for clinicians.

Managed two cross-functional, geographically distributed software engineering teams, creating and iterating on what became Voalte's market-leading smartphone solution; providing hospitals with a caregiver communication system, combining secure chat, voice over IP, alarming, and directory services. Created many foundational aspects of the software engineering department through a period of rapid expansion from scrappy start-up to the established market leader. I envisioned and implemented workflows for feature development, production support, code branching, and the continuous integration/delivery pipeline.Guided and managed the design and development of Voalte Insight, a cloud-based multi-tenant business intelligence and data warehousing product built with Amazon Redshift, S3, EC2, and Python. Reaching over a billion records in its first year.Visited customer sites to aid in the deployment of our product, and be an ambassador for Voalte’s engineering department.Hillrom acquired Voalte in April 2019.

Managed the software engineering, analysis, project management, testing, and production support functions of a customer-facing user interface and REST API application built in Flex, Java, and MySQL. The application managed customer's accounts, Content Delivery Network (CDN) configuration policies, allowed for both cloud storage file and edge server cache management, and was the database and reporting engine for customer analytics. The MySQL database was responsible for capturing and rolling up various CDN usage data, with the primary usage table exceeding 1 million rows of growth per day.Managed the analysis and testing functions for the CDN. Upon assuming control of the testing team I revamped their workflow and integrated them with the engineering teams to increase collaboration, remove impediments, and increase quality.Immediately upon joining the company I was handed an ‘out of control’ development project for a core product. I used Agile planning and estimation techniques to organize the project and give the team and our stakeholders a clear picture of the project’s scope and status, and the product’s roadmap. I then used a mixture of Scrum, Kanban, and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) to deliver this project in time to achieve the division’s “second generation technology” goal for 2010. Managed the business intelligence and data warehousing function. (PostgreSQL, Pentaho, and Tableau)

Development Manager for the Walt Disney World branded web sites, including the DisneyWorld.com resort-booking engine, which generated approximately 1 billion dollars in annual revenue. Fulfilled the role of Technical Lead and Scrum Master for multi-million dollar DisneyWorld.com related development projects.Delivered the two highest quality project releases in the history of WDPRO by focusing the team around various Agile practices such as Behavioral Driven Development and automated acceptance testing using JBehave and Selenium. Delivered those projects on-time, on-scope, and on-budget.Transitioned my cross-functional (web developers, Java software engineers, and testers) team to a version of the Scrum methodology that incorporated aspects of Lean Agile such as Work In Process limits, cycle time, and the reduction of iteration waste.

Using Ruby on Rails, Prototype, and MySQL, I designed, built, and launched a graphic design review web application, along with a commerce site that facilitated the subscription-based, software as a service (SaaS) business model.

Highlights include a hotel booking web site, which grossed over $80 million in 2007, a customer account management and bill payment web site that transacted several million dollars per month, and the primary corporate web site.
