Selected to lead the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2012 and sit as System Wide Chair of the Musculoskeletal Institute (MSK) – one of the highest performing service lines in the health system. Grew operations at 2 main hospital centers and 17 orthopaedic surgeons to 13 diverse hospital platforms (including Level I and three Level II trauma centers) with nearly 100 clinicians and 500 staff. The Board of Specialty Societies (BOS), originally created in 1984 as the Council of Orthopaedic Musculoskeletal Specialty Societies, brings together the leaders of musculoskeletal societies to address issues of mutual concern, such as advocacy, continuing medical education, research, and residency and fellowship issues. The BOS serves as a resource and advisory entity to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition, the BOS promotes unity and collaboration between the specialty societies and the AAOS.

The development of the IGFS represents a new dawn for geriatric fracture care across the globe. Our organization was founded on the need to tackle one of society’s looming health care crises through collaboration and distribution of proven principles and protocols for the treatment of geriatric fractures.

Supervised and coordinated the orthopaedic trauma academic program and clinical operations – which made up 50% of all faculty and staff. As Associate Professor, Associate Residency Program Director, and Division Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma at the University of Florida - Shands Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida: authored numerous scientific articles, including a landmark textbook on orthopaedic outcomes measures and instruments. Spoke both nationally and internationally on a variety of topics relevant to orthopaedic fracture management, health care literacy, access and delivery. Received numerous international awards for leadership and public service.

Dr. Suk recently served as Senior Advisor on Health and Recreation to the National Park Service, upon completion of his term as a White House Fellow to the U.S. Department of the Interior under Secretary Gale A. Norton. At Interior, Dr. Suk spearheaded an initiative to develop the link between public health and recreation by coordinating five Interior bureaus which manage 1 in 5 acres of land in the United States and that collectively receive nearly 500 million visitors each year and co-authored with Secretary Norton the widely received law review article entitled “America’s Public Lands and Waters: Gateway to Better Health?” Dr. Suk believes that encouraging simple outdoor activities such as hiking, biking and camping on public lands and waters can serve as a gateway to a healthier lifestyle.
