https://www.stcloudstate.edu/cmst/news/newsletter/newsletter.asp#pab1_1My project management skills remain critically important to our work to help our emerging energy efficiency nonprofit penetrate the entire metro area. I developed a series of Diagnosis and Prescriptions to summarize our findings from building inspections for nonprofit facility owners. We help when there is no facility person by acting as an independent advisor on energy efficiency; we don’t sell anything. We report an overall viewpoint of the systems, their status and actions items – rank ordered by payback.Previously, I’ve been fortunate to collect a diverse set of administrative leadership skills; recently I lead a start-to-finish organizational accreditation application, on-time and within budget, and won the rare honor of being “approved” in the first round of reviews – I’m told it is very uncommon. The document submitted was 5,700+ pages revealing all process and follow-up in the six human social services fields we applied to be accredited to perform. My years at Toshiba Medical allowed me to be comfortable with reporting various data to multiple departments and management levels. I believe it is true that you can’t fix what isn’t measured; and I’d add that for sake of efficiency, it is important to survey your audience and confirm that what you are measuring is what is needed; situations change! I love to share our progress and help others understand what we do, beyond handing in a report.Another ‘project management’ and ‘staff communication’ project that needed leadership was the new HQ facility move from Golden Valley to Metro Boulevard for VOA. The results were dramatic improvements in work environments and better alignment of teams within the building.

Jun 2008 - Present

Board Member

Midtown Greenway Coalition

The MTG is now taken for granted as a Minneapolis amenity. 5 1/2 miles of bike trail slicing an East/West line through 17 neighborhoods, all of whom are represented on our Board. It was a rails-to-trails concept; hard fought with multiple responsibilities and ownership challenges. Now the ongoing issues of good-signage, interesting art moments, trail safety, access and maintenance require that the MTG continue its work and continue to raise money to provide this good thing! After my three years I am off the Board for awhile; let some new blood roll-up-their sleeves and add their fingerprints to this critical piece of our transit infrastructure.

2009 - 2010 ~1 yr

Executive Director

Eneractnow

Our nonprofit submitted a request for long-term financing support. The goal of EnerActNow was to share a network of energy efficiency experts to other nonprofits. Funding is from The Conservation Improvement Program operated by the Department of Commerce. (Docket # 09-131)As their energy advisor, we were dedicated to provide energy efficiency experience to a broad community of nonprofits from multifamily low income housing to offices and classrooms of the Greater Twin Cities United Way agencies. For nonprofits every dollar saved is one that doesn't have to be raised; and that is worth more than $1.00.

Jul 2008 - May 2009

Assistant To President/Ceo

and Secretary of the CorporationAssisted all operational oversight of a large ($42 Million) social service organization. Wrote, assembled and successfully defended first ever accreditation attempt with the National Council on Accreditation (COA).Member of executive team as Corporate Secretary, liaison for two Boards of Directors (16 member and 22 member) and 6 program directors.

Apr 2005 - May 2008

Assistant To The President

Volunteers Of America Minnesota

VOA was a wonderful challenge as it is a widely recognized nonprofit name with a nearly unknown set of services. I was Secretary of the Board of Directors and we had three separate Boards which handled all of the Real Estate properties (VOA For Minnesota) a Board for Long Term Capital projects (VOA Of Minnesota) and the main Social Service programs (VOA In Minnesota). With over 700 employees and 6 lines-of-business it was a wonderfully diverse job giving me access to a broad management understanding where my Masters work in Nonprofit Leadership played a critical role in guiding me work. With this role I was able to wrangle together 21 of the programs for Accreditation through the Council on Accreditation affirming that processes were in place and back up measures were tested to guarantee a consistent level of service to our program participants.

With 550 field engineers who needed the latest-greatest information on everything coming out of Japan, I found that written manuals and Field Notes were not fast enough nor complete enough and developed a video documentation process that became a whole media-lab delivering multimedia tools for all 5 modalities (X-Ray, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound and MRI).

1994 - 1996 ~2 yrs

Marketing And Public Relations

C. Uyemura & Co.

Working at C. Uyemura & Co. changed my life. I was able to help with all of the English speaking countries nearby such as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. It was just good fortune that took me into China where C. Uyemura had a 'technical transfer' program ongoing and I was able to become active in that process allowing me to deeply learn our products on a technical level and then ultimately share that knowledge as we opened a new office in Los Angeles (Culver City) where I worked for years as liaison to the factory.
