Systems Analyst - Business Infrastructure (Contract Dec.15, 2016)
Main responsibility was to provide back-fill for Systems Analysts who were required, to be pulled from day-to-day tasks, to work on internal Projects. I was able to do this well and in suitable time such that the analyst were able to focus on the projects and complete their work successfully. This involved adapting to their environment quickly drawing on my many years of experience and the experience of my co-workers. Also included taking an active role in weekly team meetings and integrating well within the existing team. I successfully provided one-on-one support and information to end-users on the use of business applications and services. I quickly became an asset to, and a welcome member of, the team.I became familiar with many aspects of the business by attending information sessions offered by Payments Canada and took an active role where appropriate. This allowed me to have insight into the organizational direction of Payments Canada and start formulating ways to allow IT to enable the business going forward into the future.Challenges Overcome:Upgraded an existing customized Microsoft Management Console (MMC) based application to interface with Exchange 2010. Utilizing Role Based Access Control (RBAC) groups, I granted restricted access for the Executive Assistant staff to manage the Global Address List of Corporate Contacts. Worked with the Technical Writer to update existing User Guide with changes/additions required. The Infrastructure team were instrumental in enabling me to quickly grasp the complex highly virtualized environment with over 100 virtual servers at 4 sites and a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VMWare Horizon) with approximately 150 VM’s in 3 domains.I have Identified and recommended improvements to processes and procedures and explored opportunities for automation within the existing business infrastructure.
Information Technology Manager / Systems Administrator / Senior Technical Support Analyst
Successfully submitted yearly IT budgets that ranged from 150K to 250K. I kept budgeted costs on-target and below never exceeding the yearly budget.Identified the need for and successfully presented business cases to perform two upgrades to our corporate backup systems. The first one (tape backup) took place utilizing the funds approved for the Novell to Microsoft Data Center migration that had come in under budget ($17K). The second took place 4 years later when tape backup was no longer a viable option. Performed a complete Cost Benefit analyses comparing tape backup solutions vs backup appliance with cloud storage. Successfully made the case to move to an enterprise level backup appliance leveraging the cloud for the off-site storage (76K over 3yrs.) This resulted in savings in tape handling time and reduced the backup window by over 10 hours.Within 2 months, successfully sourced and acquired hardware/software, to successfully implement a SharePoint Server cluster without prior exposure to SharePoint. The SharePoint Server cluster was successfully maintained throughout the course of the Company Project and provided all the services required by the project.Successfully managed a project to add two remote offices to our existing infrastructure which increased efficiency of collaborative project work being done in multiple offices. There was no interruption in services during the integration and the addition of shared project folders allowed all offices to interact seamlessly.Delivered a project on-time and 13% under budget without downtime to the end-users. Managed and performed $150K data center Migration project from Novell to Microsoft for 100+ users in 4 offices across Canada. The result of this project increased the efficiency of report generation and information sharing on projects that spanned multiple offices.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing software algorithms to complete complex calculations both during the operation of real-time data acquisitions systems and during the post-analyses phases. The post analyses required data reduction and summarization to allow users to work with the data in a more manageable fashion. Installation/implementation/troubleshooting of data acquisition systems used on a number of different projects from a Standard motions package to a complete ship health monitoring system. Main developer on a multi-year project called DeCaM (Debris Characterization and Modelling.) This software was developed for Defence RD Canada -Valcartier. Built on MS Visual C/C++ utilizing MFC for the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and OpenGL for displaying an animated scene of a projectile impacting a plate and the resulting debris cloud. Most recent Data Acquisition project was a joint effort by BMT Scientific Marine Services and Fleet Technology Ltd.. This project involved the installation and integration of a Slam Monitoring and Prediction system aboard two Marine Coastal Defence Vessels (MCDV's), the HMCS Shawinigan and the HMCS GooseBay. The Shawinigan was the main trial system including all components including Strain gages, pressure gages, GPS and Motion packages. On the bridge a computer with customised software was used to analyze the data and predict Slam probabilities based on ship heading, speed and sea conditions and display these predictions in real-time as a navigation aid to the Crew. The GooseBay, who made the same scheduled trans-Atlantic journey as the Shawinigan was instrumented with fewer strain gages, a single motions package and no live display. Performing Data Acquisition only on two separate units, the purpose was to use the data collected on the GooseBay to validate/verify the findings of the main system.
