Working as part of a multi-discipline team to design and develop a self-burying robot for geological exploration in high temperature, high pressure environment in the Oil and Gas sector.Primarily responsible for requirements capture and analysis, software development and testing (to an integration level) for one component of the overall system.

- Responsible for developing a Windows (Embedded Compact 7.0 and desktop) multi-platform system using Agile development methodologies. Development activities including: GUI design, three-tier architecture (Model-View-Presenter) implementation, database design for SqlCe and access via ADO.NET, embedded O/S, customisation and port of ICOP Board Support Package to WINCE 7.0.- Provided technical guidance to the test team on the high-level design of a new, automated test system allowing them to utilise the MVP architecture in fully automated, black-box system testing.- Designed, developed and delivered a Microchip PIC32 bootloader to enhance an existing gas analyser product with the capability of in-field upgrade, configuration and just-in-time deployment. The package featured PC connectivity over USB, software upgrade on multi-processor system and proxy programming of a connected Commercial Off-The-Shelf GUI device using a modified XMODEM protocol.

- Drove the introduction and refinement of new processes for sales management, project management and product development that resulted in a doubling of the size of the business with sustainable growth continuing at a similar rate.- Provided new and existing clients with technical representation from their initial enquiry to the delivery of their product.- Responsible for high level requirements capture and analysis, project budgeting, estimation, quotation and sale closure.- During development acted as customer representative with regard to technical decision making and Quality Assurance, including the rigorous demands of a DO-178B avionics project.

Contract work for Safe Patient Systems Ltd.Responsible for requirements capture, analysis and validation, production of system use cases and system architecture. Additional responsibilities included providing development process feedback and improvement plans to the Head of Product Development.

Reporting to the European Product Software Director.- Managed a Six Sigma green belt project to develop and introduce a process, within the company’s implementation of CMM, that delivered a tenfold improvement on the detection and resolution rates of stability defects.- Assembled, trained, equipped and managed a globally distributed team of software engineers, responsible for executing the new process.- Managed the requirements for a new integrated debugging toolkit, working with key suppliers to ensure that the software solution delivered met the expectations of internal and external end users.- Provided in-house consultation and training to customer support team, enabling them to go live with the new products on time and to budget.- Represented Motorola’s interests on a Symbian tools special interest group.- Responsible for prior art searches and application reviews on behalf of inventors with applications submitted to the Patent Comittee.

Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager. Led a team of in-house engineers, with full line management responsibility. Managed the telephony and data networking system software development project. Managed vendor selection process, producing Statements of Work and requirements specifications, and directing the development of outsourced components. Negotiated and deployed third-party contract and consulting resources to fill identified internal skill gaps.- Managed the system project, up to the feature complete milestone, within time, quality and budget constraints.- Produced technical requirements for all telephony system components through analysis of product requirement specification.- Defined scalable and re-useable Inter-processor communication system architecture, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.- Instigated and managed a team merger to reduce department management overheads by 20%.

Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager. Delivered telephony and modem services software components. Managed third party software suppliers. Executed full software life cycle process, in accordance with CMMI level 3 quality requirements, to deliver in-house components.- Managed the Symbian telephony system (TSY) development project with Atelier, the supplier.- Managed engineering contractors to deliver the Series60 Domestic OS services (DSY) component.- Designed, developed and maintained an Inter-processor Communications device driver and a modem error management system.

- Responsible for Microsoft approval of Windows CE product range (MIPS RISC).- Developed automated test kit for Eurosoft x86 based custom BIOS.- Provided on-site and telephone technical support to users, customers and sales staff.- Developed a number of custom applications on CPM, DOS and Windows 3.x systems.
