Michael Workman has been a Chairman, Director, CEO, and CTO of Public and Private Companies. He is an expert in Information Technology, digital storage, product architecture, and marketing. Retired (July 2020) SVP of Flash Storage for Oracle after selling Pillar Data Systems to Oracle as the COB and CEO of the company. Pillar was founded by Mike and Larry Ellison in 2001, a company that pioneered such concepts as Quality of Service in storage, integrated file and block storage, modular scalable architecture, and served midrange storage customers around the globe. Before founding Pillar Mike was a Vice President and Senior Manager at IBM. After disk drive development, Mike lead a subsystem group IBM purchased in 1999 and then left IBM for the opportunity to build a storage company from the ground up. Mike was an independent director of Komag Corporation and has held positions in various industry professional organizations. With over 25 patents in storage, circuits, and software, Mike has always been on the leading edge of the IT Industry. Graduating from Stanford with a PhD in 1987, and UC Berkeley with a BS in EE and CS, Mike has coauthored a textbook on Digital Control of Dynamic Systems with two colleagues at Stanford, a reference text on Magnetic Recording, dozens of papers on diverse topics including storage, fireworks manufacture, aquascaping, and winemaking as well as four editions of blog compilations on the storage industry. Mike has been featured in Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and appeared on NBC’s Power Lunch Live as well as live prime time news programs in Europe with live audiences of over 18 million.
