As Controller, Michelle oversees the day-to-day management of the Foundation accounting operations. Michelle is responsible for all audit, tax and financial reporting functions for the Foundation. She coordinates the design of internal and external financial reporting, the internal and external audits, and oversees the preparation of all aspects of the annual tax return and related Federal and State IRS filings. Michelle has served as liaison to the Audit Committee of the Foundation Board. She designs and presents the audit committee meeting agenda topics, provides orientation training to new members and acts as meeting secretary. In addition, Michelle has served as Foundation representative on various University-wide committees and workgroups that work to ensure sound financial practices across all areas of the University. Prior to joining the UF Foundation, Michelle served the USF Foundation for over 19 years. Notable accomplishments include the successful conversion of the financial accounting system to Blackbaud’s Financial Edge NXT as Project Lead. Due to legislative changes, she led the conversion of accounting standards, translating financial reporting on the basis of Financial Accounting Standards to Governmental Accounting Standards. She also managed a Large Case IRS examination resulting in a no-change letter from the IRS. Michelle previously was serving audit clients at Ernst & Young in the healthcare, governmental and non-profit industries. She holds a bachelors degree in Accountancy from the Florida State University and holds the degree of Master of Accountancy from the University of South Florida. Michelle is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Florida. Michelle is a volunteer of Girl Scouts of West Central Florida serving as a service unit voting delegate and a Troop Leader for over 10 years. Michelle’s troop is actively involved in community service initiatives and earned a Bronze Award, the highest award a Junior Troop can earn. Michelle is a third degree Blackbelt in Krav Maga Martial Arts and is a certified instructor in Krav Maga.
