Geen vaardigheid is meer waardevol, en moeiliker om te bekom, as die vermoë om krities deur probleme te dink nie. Goeie besluite skep tyd, terwyl swak besluite tyd verbruik. Goeie aanvanklike besluite betaal dividende vir jare in oorvloedige vrye tyd en lae stres. Swak besluite, aan die ander kant, mors tyd, verhoog angs en dreineer ons energie.Die gehalte van ons denke is eweredig aan die modelle in ons gedagtes en die nut daarvan in die situasie waarin ons ons bevind. Hoe meer modelle daar in ons denke is, hoe groter is ons gereedskapskis en hoe wyer is ons perspektief om die werklikheid getrou in te sien.In my CV skryf ek onder andere dat ek ’n gekwalifiseerde veekundige is met goeie tegniese kennis van byvoorbeeld produksietegnologie, bemarkingstegnieke, relevante wetgewing, finansieringsbronne en bestuursbeginsels en -teorieë. My vaardighede en eienskappe sluit in om analities en ’n probleemoplosser te wees. Ek is emosioneel veerkragtig en kan die emosionele stres en spanning hanteer wat ontstaan as ’n natuurlike gevolg van werk in situasies wat gesag, leierskap, interpersoonlike konflik, die bereiking van teikens en spertye behels.Dit was ’n heerlike hoofstuk as redakteur van The Dairy Mail, maar op my eie pad na robuustheid sprei ek my veekundevlerke om die pos as plaasbestuurder van Hoërskool Wagpos in Brits vanaf Mei 2022 op te neem. Ek glo dat ek ook hier ’n waardevolle bydrae gaan maak, want ek is lief vir landbou en ek is lief vir mense. Ek hoop om ’n sterk nalatenskap van boerdery nie net my vir drie seuns te laat nie, maar ook vir ander jongmense in die landbou, aangesien landbou vroeg lewenslesse leer: daardie lesse rakende die onvoorspelbaarheidvan die natuur, die loon gekoppel aan volharding, die verlossing wat gevind word in geloof en harde werk, die waarde van eerlikheid, en die blywende impak van vriendskappe wat deur dié lewenstyl gevorm word.
