Senior Planner responsible for historic preservation component of town plan and unified development ordinance. Staff liaison to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC). Prepare HPC materials to organize and administer monthly HPC meetings and public hearings. Interpret and make recommendations for historic property projects to meet the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and the Wake Forest Design Standards. Work with architects, contractors, and property owners within the historic district and local landmarks to ensure the standards are met. Responsible person for the HPC's annual work plan and any projects funded or endorsed by the HPC. Updated the Design Standards for Historic Districts and Local Landmarks. Staff support for the biennial tour of homes sponsored by the Historic Preservation Commission and Woman's Club. The home tour is a popular local event featuring 10-12 historic homes and buildings with 2000 ticket holders and over 100 volunteers. Apply for and manage grant projects in partnership with the SHPO. Received and managed the following Certified Local Government grants: Narration Component for the Historic Walking Tour App (2015), Ground Penetrating Radar and Public Workshop at the Ailey Young House (2016), Property Owners Workshops (2016), Archaeological Excavation and Public Workshop (2018-19), Historic Resources Survey Update (1958-1975) (2019-2020), and Historic Preservation Plan (2021-22). Project manager for the Ailey Young House rehabilitation and Heritage Site Development. Managed Regional Certified Local Government Historic Preservation Commission Training for Piedmont region in 2015 and 2019. Assist the Downtown Development Director with historic preservation issues. Partner with the Wake Forest Historical Museum, Capital Area Preservation, Preservation NC, and other local preservation planners and agencies to further local historic preservation goals.

North Carolina/Florida

Completed several projects under the Certified Local Government Grant Program in North Carolina including the Wilson Historic District Design Guidelines 2008-2009, New Bern Historic District Design Guidelines 2007-2008, Edenton Historic District Design Guidelines 2005-2006, the Edenton National Register Historic District Inventory and Survey Update in 2002-2003, and the City of Fayetteville Municipal Architectural Survey 2001-2002. Other municipal projects include the Colerain, NC, National Register Historic District in 2020, Snow Hill, NC National Register Historic District Expansion in 2009, the Edenton, NC National Register Historic District Expansion in 2007, the Design Guidelines for Fayetteville’s Historic Districts in 2000, and the Averasboro Battlefield Historic District in 2000. Since 1999, the consultant has completed twenty individual National Register Nominations in ten different North Carolina counties and one boundary expansion in South Carolina. Local Landmark nominations have been completed for one property in Wake County and twelve properties in Fayetteville including four private residences, one fire station, an armory, an African-American cemetery, a canal, and a spring. Prepared Rehabilitation Tax Credit Applications for projects in Fayetteville, Fuquay-Varina, Raleigh, Warrenton, Windsor, and Edenton, North Carolina.

Jacksonville, Florida Area

Regional Architectural Historian tasked with providing architectural history support to naval installations in seven states within the southeast region in compliance with all cultural resources laws and regulations but specifically with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Work includes Section 106 project review, interpretation of the Secretary of Interiors Standards, identification and evaluation of historic properties, architectural survey and reporting, development of Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plans, determinations of eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, project and contract management, SHPO consultation, developing and implementing Memoranda of Agreements, preparing, overseeing, and executing mitigation plans, communication with a variety of stakeholders including project managers, planners, commanders, and SHPO staff, public outreach, and staff training. Coordinate historic building issues with National Environmental Policy (NEPA) staff. In addition to the duties listed above co-authored, “The Architecture of the Department of Defense: A Military Style Guide” in 2011 for the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program. Co-Manager of the "DoD Historic Buildings Workshop" in San Diego, CA in June 2012.

Fort Liberty

Person responsible for the architectural history portion of the Cultural Resources Management Program at Fort Liberty including implementing the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) at Fort Liberty. Environmental Review Coordinator for Cultural Resources Program reviewing approximately 500 projects per year for compliance issues. Project manager for the Old Post Historic District Design Guidelines, the Old Post Historic District Design Guidelines PA, the Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan, Adaptive Reuse Plans, Old Post Future Development Plan, Old Post Historic Landscape Study, HABS/HAER, Building Monitoring and Condition Assessments, Residential Communities Initiative PA, and the Historic Architectural Survey Update. In addition to the duties listed above the Architectural Historian received funding from the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program in June 2007 to research, develop, and write design guidelines for DoD’s Historic Buildings and Districts. The project was completed in August 2008 and is available on the DENIX website.
