As the President and CEO of Brooks Applied Labs, a specialty analytical chemistry laboratory, I was responsible for all aspects of company management and operations, including finance, company policy, human resources, research & development, analytical services (operations), business development, customer relations, sales & marketing, and administration. I created the vision, mission, and core values for the company, and I grew an organization that I was deeply proud of for innovation, quality, and culture.• Grew the company revenues and profits 3-fold through a clearly-defined plan to develop unparalleled expertise and technical excellence in providing a niche service across a broad range of industries.• Developed and maintained a company reputation as the “gold standard” for service providers in our field, known for not only the highest level of quality and service, but also for an exceptional company culture.• Identified a potential acquisition and spearheaded a successful merger and integration of this company into ours in 2015, increasing our market breadth.• Created and implemented a 5-year strategic plan for the company, including specific goals for growth of services and markets, with the target of allowing the ownership group to divest for a targeted sales price in 2020 (achieved).• Demonstrated confident and decisive leadership as we shepherded the company through the COVID-19 pandemic in the midst of a company sale.

Prior to my promotion to President/CEO, I served as the company’s only Vice President, overseeing all management and operations of the Analytical Services Division.• Fostered strong technical writing skills and the ability to develop excellent content under a deadline through the process of authoring or co-authoring multiple publications and presentations.• Built and implemented lean systems to ensure smooth flow of samples through the lab without compromising on critical quality assurance processes, thus achieving success at meeting the demands of fast turnaround times for results and reports (typically 3-10 days). • Grew lab from 13 employees to 60 employees, requiring systems and programs to scale accordingly. Assured the targeted growth of the company while ensuring that the programs and culture elements most valued by the staff were retained and enhanced.• Developed professional enrichment programs that provided much needed training for new supervisors as they transitioned from technical roles to leadership roles.• Implemented Weekly Huddles and Quarterly All-Staff Meetings to ensure outstanding and transparent company-wide communication and engagement.• Lead the team responsible for moving the company from Seattle to Bothell, including the buildout of required new facilities.

As the Vice President of Operations at Frontier Geosciences, a 75-person analytical chemistry and research laboratory, I was responsible for all aspects of laboratory operations, including project management, quality, research & development, and facilities management for three different analytical laboratories and four separate research groups.• Created and updated separate budgets for all laboratories and research groups, providing guidance and coaching to lab managers and PhD research scientists to ensure they stayed on budget.• Oversaw the personnel decisions in all groups and mentored supervisors on recruiting, hiring, performance management, and terminations. • Directed all decisions related to purchasing and capital equipment, including key instrumentation decisions (equipment valued at $100-$300K).• Designed new employee performance management and assessment system, including quarterly profit-sharing plan, and implemented its use company-wide.Previously held positions at Frontier Geosciences include: Vice President of Administration and Analytical Services, Laboratory Manager, Human Resources Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Project Management Group Leader, Project Manager, Facilities Manager, Trace Metals Group Leader, and Trace Metals Chemist.

In addition to maintaining many of my analytical responsibilities, I directed a nine-member team and I was responsible for data validation and thoroughness of all analytical results reports and CLP-style results packages (including electronic data deliverables) generated by the department. I was an integral part of overall division management, including hiring, work distribution, and instrument maintenance.
