Confers with federal, state, and local school officials to develop curricula and establish guidelines for educational programs. Plans and coordinates educational policies for specific K-12 Social Studies. Plans, develops and implements professional development programs for in-service education of teaching personnel. Confers with social studies stakeholders and professional groups to disseminate and receive input on teaching methods. Reviews and evaluates curricula for use in public and charter schools and assists in supporting to local education support needs. Interprets state education codes and rules and regulations of State Board of Education in order to carry out state education initiatives. Conducts and participates in workshops, committees, and conferences designed to promote intellectual, social, and physical welfare of students. Researches and prepares recommendations on instructional materials, teaching aids, and related equipment. Prepares manuals, guidelines, and reports on state educational policies and practices for distribution to school districts. Advises school officials on implementation of state and federal programs and procedures. Conducts research into areas, such as teaching methods and techniques.

 Responsible for the Cumberland County School district’s middle and high school Social Studies program  Responsible for managing the Teaching American History Project funded by the federal DOE Implemented district-wide strategies that promote student active engagement and time on task in the classroom Established bi-monthly district leadership training for department chairpersons Initiated DAP (Dialogue and Planning) as a committee which brings middle and high school teachers together to discuss the curriculum and performance competencies that high school teachers need middle school teachers to be aware of in their planning and instruction as they prepare students for high school courses in social studies and history Established a committee of teachers trained to write test questions for social studies aligned to the state item-writing format. This group lead to a larger district comprehensive program in Benchmark testing.  Responsible for planning and directing over 20 contest activities, exhibits, and educational events highlighting an 11 day celebration of the 2003 Festival of Flight in Fayetteville, NC Wrote and received a million dollar grant from the federal DOE that lead to the increased teacher knowledge and understanding of history and how to effectively teach history as well as the improvement in student achievement
