Green 2.0 and the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) are partnering to produce a report to a) determine the demographics of U.S. newsrooms with journalists covering the environment, climate, and energy and b) analyze the state of journalism and experiences for journalists of color in the environment, climate, and energy beats.As the Diversity in Environmental Journalism Report Lead, I lead this project tracking project progress using Asana, running and scheduling meetings, and communicating regularly with journalists and outlets. I also build surveys and collect data using Qualtrics. Finally, in the coming months I will analyze data and write the report analysis.

As the Transparency Report Data Lead, I managed the creation and data collection of Green 2.0's Transparency Report. I led this project by running and scheduling meetings in order to ensure progress was made and follow on tasks were completed on appropriate timelines. In this work, I created 3 surveys in Qualtrics and presented 2 webinars. I managed 100+ datasets and coordinated with 100+ NGOs and foundations to collect, clean, and analyze their data. In the coming months, I will moderate a panel for Green 2.0's Transparency Report Launch in December. I will also create and present about our report at Oasis' DEIJ Summit.The purpose of this project is to benchmark and promote a standard for NGO and foundation inclusivity and transparency by examining the staffing and DEIJ practices of environmental nonprofits and foundations. Green 2.0 works to create a more just and inclusive environmental movement. Through this fellowship, I managed and updated the Experts of Color Database (linked below) by corresponding with 300 experts and organizing profile data. I also supported event logistics and operations by creating event materials (prep memos and panel questions) for in-person and virtual events and communicating with panelists. I wrote a blog post (linked below) and provided administrative support by creating protocols, updating a job board, and proofreading annual reports/ board presentations. I also managed 3 different email inboxes to correspond with internal staff, external partners, and members of the public.

As a project consultant, I supported the Environmental Defense Fund's project focused on understanding how to partner effectively with local communities, NGOs, governments, etc. internationally. Through this work, I led focus groups and interviews with EDF staff and conducted research via literature reviews to gather information about partnerships. I collaborated with the project team to develop 5 key recommendations for EDF to partner effectively and equitably with international community groups. I also wrote research reports 1-50 pages long for internal staff and donors and created and presented 2 research presentations to the project team.

As a Field Instructor, I coordinated with the Education Coordinator and Education Director to plan outdoor recreation and training events 1-3 days long. I also led 4th and 5th grade students from Title 1 schools on field trips to teach them about science at the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. I worked with a new group of 4-8 students 2-3 times a week.

Greater San Diego Area

Through my work with Project Wildlife, a program within the San Diego Humane Society, I rehabilitated nearly 14,000 wild animals annually. In addition to animal care, this position allowed me to develop skills such as how to manage projects, coordinate with a team to accomplish tasks, multitask and manage my time in a fast-paced environment, and how to take initiative and work independently.As the Lead for Project Wildlife's Process Improvement Team for 2 years, I led a project team to identify processes that needed improvement, brainstormed solutions, created multi-step goals, and coordinated with leadership to accomplish tasks. As the lead, I scheduled and led meetings with both the team and leadership and utilized Basecamp to delegate tasks and follow up with individuals to ensure projects were being completed on time. I managed 4 projects to improve 2 major processes, including improving onboarding efficiency and career growth opportunities.I regularly took initiative to complete special projects to create 30 protocols (20-100 pages), training handbooks, training videos, and presentations. I also designed, created patterns, and constructed much needed supplies (cage covers, perches, raptor hoods) for staff and volunteers.Through working the front desk 1-5 days a week, I answered phone calls, communicated professionally with members of the public when they brought animals to Project Wildlife, and received and documented donations from the public. I also interacted with donors on donor tours at the front desk and throughout my work at Project Wildlife.My animal care duties included observing, handling, and feeding up to 300 wildlife patients daily and cleaning wildlife enclosures and general workspaces, which allowed me to develop excellent multitasking skills and taught me how to prioritize constantly shifting tasks. In addition to these duties, I led and/or trained over 50 volunteers weekly.

Cuyamaca State Park, Ca

As an intern, I gained and implemented outdoor education and group management skills. Each week, I taught a new group of 16 students outdoors about scientific concepts such as adaptations, invasive species, ornithology, and astronomy. Together, students and I collected data for two citizen science projects: 1) invasive beetles’ effects on native oak trees and 2) bird diversity and population changes in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. I then submitted data to the state park and Cornell University’s eBird database, respectively.As an outdoor educator I adapted quickly to changing schedules and solved problems independently on trails. I enjoyed connecting with 20-30 new students each week by being friendly and by respecting each individual and their unique backgrounds.
