I was instructed as solicitor-agent by the Health & Safety Executive (‘HSE’) to prosecute its most complex and high profile cases. Upon a decision to prosecute being made, I would review & analyse the evidence, advise on further evidence collection if necessary, consider the proposed charges, advise upon the focus that the prosecution should take, and draft the summonses / case summarises and sentencing schedules in readiness for Court.Thereafter, I would commence Court Proceedings and represent until conclusion; be this in the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court or Court of Appeal.During this period, I worked closely with the HSE Inspectors, Specialist Inspectors and instructed Barristers. I would also liaise with representatives of the Defence.

I undertook defence work (legal aid & privately funded) in the areas of Serious Fraud, Regulatory, General Crime and Confiscation Proceedings. Serious Fraud was my principal area of practice.I defended cases prosecuted by a variety of agencies, including the Serious Fraud Office, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills, Trading Standards, the Environment Agency and the Crown Prosecution Service.I defended clients at the police station, the Magistrates’ Court, the Crown Court, the Court of Appeal, the Administrative Court of the High Court and the European Court of Human Rights.I not only worked on, but was also responsible for Categories 1 - 3 Very High Cost Cases (‘VHCCs’); all of which were large-scale Fraud cases contracted by the Legal Aid Agency. Such responsibility included the preparation and negotiation of stage plans and the preparation and submission of stage end bills.I provided internal training days and created my own training materials for those fee earning colleagues who wanted to undertake the Police Station Accreditation Scheme.
