About Mike Ashley

Helping (1) forestry product carriers fill their driver shortage and (2) DoD better allocate personnel by increasing the productivity of vehicle operators.Michiel Ashley is a Graduate Research Assistant in the CAST Lab who is studying in the Texas A&M Mechanical Engineering PhD program. His research focus is commercial vehicle platooning where he is developing safer and more secure connected systems. His contributions to this field are allowing for cleaner environments, increased transportation safety, improved commute speeds and filling the massive operator shortages. While studying as an undergraduate student at Texas A&M, he worked 3 years with the CAST lab as a student technician, where he drove class 8 trucks for platooning research. He also designed and fabricated experimental equipment for other connected & autonomous vehicle projects. Prior to working on research projects, he spent years as a mechanic, truck driver and working on a farm.He enjoys reading, listening to podcasts and taking his motorcycle for long road trips.
