I am based in the Design Office with responsibility for the CAD/PDM systems.We use a combination of proprietary and bespoke software to provide an integrated, end-to-end solution, from concept through to realization and track-side activities. My role falls under the Engineering group (rather than IS/IT) and therefore focuses on the user side of the systems. This includes implementation and maintenance, standards, methodologies and training, but generally excludes the hardware and network infrastructure.I have an involvement in relevant software development, typically defining requirements and acting as user representative and system owner.I have been involved throughout the evolution of CAD within the company from an 8-seat file-based CAD/CAM system to the current environment, which is based around CATIA V5 and a bespoke PDM tool, and supports over 180 users.Prior to joining the company (Benetton Formula, at the time), my background was in machine tools, power tools and then mainstream automotive design, where my involvement in CAD began.
