I was initially engaged by Harness Energy Services for both conventional and unconventional short term oil and gas contracts as a Rig Manager in the Bowen and Eromanga basins of Queensland. I then spent a period of time as a workplace trainer and assessor developing and implementing assessment tools for their onshore oil and gas drilling competencies. In addition to this I conducted field competency assessments in the Cooper, Surat, Bowen and Eromanga basins for several drilling contractors.I was then contracted as a Well Site Representative for both AGL in the Hunter Valley of NSW and Origin Energy in the Surat Basin of Queensland.

I was initially employed by Tom Browne to supervise their Coal Seam Gas drilling projects. After the successful completion of the CSG projects the mineral sector started to boom and I was put into the role of Operations Manager. The role required management of 24 drilling rigs all on double shift operations.Due to the rapid growth of the business and a shortage of skilled rig crew there was need for intensive in-house training so I was taken from the operations role to develop and implement a comprehensive training program and rig ready training facility on the company's premises in Dubbo.

I spent the majority of my time at Pontil - Major Drilling as a leading hand driller and drilling supervisor.Due to the massive growth in the coal and coal seam gas sectors I spent 12 months in a recruitment role to boost the company’s manning requirements followed by a further 12 months setting up sustainable purchasing and logistics systems for the coal and coal seam gas divisions of the company before returning to the field as a drilling supervisor. This supervisory role required total project supervision of four rigs on 24 hour operations.

I started my drilling career here as a Leasehand and worked my way to floorhand, motorman, Derrickman, assistant driller, driller and finally leading hand driller. Drilling disciplines included onshore and offshore oil and gas, geothermal, water well and a lot of large diameter drilling.
